There has been a post placed on the short board site regarding Spot X Near Port Beach Fremantle. It states the Port Authority are moving sand from the pile and placing it where spot X is effectively destroying the place. This is proberbally the precurser for the authority to build what they refer to as a finger groyne at 90 degree angle from the existing groyne. This will certainly spell disaster for Sand Tracks.

It would be a shame to loose the break but the Port Authority seem to be able to what ever they bloody want.

That's a shame because those authorities usually get their way no matter what.

Generally speaking there's only two mechanisms that can bring about any sort of postponement and they are the environment or native title but I'm sure both would have been well researched before commencement.

By "well researched" I mean they've probably paid them token lip service or greased up all the right parties with some sort of appeasment.

You lost me a bit there Kearnsey. I just thought the longboard larrys might wont to know that a good longboard wave might be under threat.

haha i tell you what, i am pretty sure they park those bulldozers there at night. [}:)]

Sandtrax is losing sand i feel. I was there over the weekend and it just doesn't break like it used a few years ago. Still fun but.

If a few of us get together and put in for a carton or two we could convince the machine operator to accidentally bulldoze a few buckets into the Sandtrax section to beef it up a bit.

Who is with me on this one?? We may get one more good winter out of it before it really turns crap with the work they will do. Who knows the work they carry out on Spot X may make Sandtrax better break but more often than not it will destroy it.

Cheers for the link Ian.

Umm, am I the only one that thinks this development looks like it will improve the break at Sandtracks? I mean, look a the length of the wall they are extending... we might end up with a 500m point break.

I'm no environmental scientist, but I can't see that this development affecting sandtracks as much as people here are anticpating. If anything sandtracks could be at its best during the development of it with all the dredging and added sand movement.

While this development is not an artifical reef, I found this article particuarly relevant.

Yeah it looks like the set up at the old north mole. I hadn't seen that proposal before. Matbe a few stray boulders might get things started.

WOW hows the swell hey... outtacontrol!!

I dunno if you guys know, but the dredging at Berth 10 inside the harbour, that material will be used to fill the stage A process. Stage B I believe begins a few years later. Environmental approval pending.

Having looked at the DL's post it may just provide Sandtrax with an even broader triangle shape of sand along the groin.

Still, a few stray buckets of boulders and sand would be a kind gesture from the bulldozer operator. Surely one of those guys must be a waterman.

30/6 4pm Sandtrax I am there with a carton and those workers knock off about that time, I been staking em out (only jokes)

Looks like the beginning of a great new point break? Might improve the spot, rather than make it worse?

I'm guessing that all that energy that get's split into the articifial bay on an incoming SW swell will now be all merged into a noice wave coming the one corner, making for a wicked wave?
