And now for my next noob question, where should I start when looking for some surfing warmth for the coming colder months (no rush yet). Products that would suit me need to be fitting for a cheapskate, short leg, long body, and overweight amateur. (Doesn't that paint a picture, the perfect man). Also looking for something for Queensland temperature range

Thinking about an E-Bomb Pro or Dawn Patrol vest. Thoughts?

What ever you choose, make sure its 2mm that's all you will need.

I have managed to get away most winters wearing my very old long
sleeve 2mm jacket ( I hate wearing ) my 2mm short sleeve steamer.

That's all you need, the jacket and boardies for 90% of winter, those
guy's down south must be jealous

Thanks Mac, I watched a video review of the h-bomb. Some dudes in Canada, snow on the beaches, I think I would be snowboarding not surfing.

I agree with Mac Kadil I hate steamers and get through winter with a 2mm long sleeve springy, being cold you will burn heaps more energy and wont feel so guilty when you have a Burger with the lot and large choccy Moove after your surf

Even in Sydney last year, I managed to get through the entire season without the steamer. I also hate using them, just like the others do.

(tip: if you do use one and struggle to get it over your legs, just put your foot in a plastic shopping bag before you try to put each leg in the suit, you'll find your leg slides in easily).

Someone mentioned a long sleeve springy, that sounds like a good way to go for up there because I got by all last year in Sydney with a short legged steamer.

I know you're probably saying "what's the dif" well the long sleeved springy can be 2mm all over while the short legged steamer is the normal 3/2 but without the extra rubber on the legs.

You see, water temp is probably not the issue for you, it's wind chill when you're sitting on top of the board when the southerly really blowing cold.

Another option is a shortjohn, I reckon these are great, plenty of rash protection, and as things cool down you can add layers.

1. A short sleeve rashy underneath
2. A long sleeve rashy underneath
3. A long and a short sleeve rashy underneath
4. An Adrenaline rashy underneath (Their long sleeve ones are almost the equivalent of a 2mm wetty, the only problem is, they hold a lot of water and I don't like the weight)
4. A 1mm wetty top. (and the same wetty top will probablty do you for a lot of the year with just your boardys.

Lots of option there.

Great tip for getting the legs into a steamer. Got one for getting the bloody thing off when its sodden and the arms are like noodles, thats always a sight.

I wore boardies over long skins for weeks. I only just started surfing and my skin was not used to being wet so long, and geez the chafe between the knees was bad. Skins solved that but looked stupid.

Tried surfing last weekend without the skins and seems to be better. Only a little sensitive after 2 and a half hours being wet.

Too old to care about stuff like that.

mate it depends on whether you feel the cold of not.

if your not a run of the mill qld hero, a 2 mm steamer and long sleeve springy will get you through most of the worse of the winter. keep in mind we have had some mild winter water conditions for the last couple of years. i have a 3/2 billabong steamer solution gold for two years-worn it 4 times.

but then again i'm on a sup so not gettin that wet all the time

But seriously when I say skins I mean:
http://store.skins.net/au/mens-compression?gclid=CIvVgMaT_64CFYFLpgodqWee2A

And they stop the board and shorts grabbing those hairs and skin and causing a rash

I don't think it was the boardies fault, more the land-lovers skin. Not a problem any more. The boardies were Billabong, not real cheap. Think they were about $70.

Tight protective layer stopped wet skin rubbing, simple as that.

And, it worked.

The style idol comment was all in fun, never seen a pic or video, but you definitely make the forum an interesting read.

Mate once youv'e have had a bluebottle go up your boardies you will want a pair.

Always wear then under my boardies after an east / nor-eastly blow and you can see them on the shoreline.
