Yeh, nothing worse than 10+ learners with one instructor learning in the shoreline.
Someday's you cant wait to HIT the shoreline as it sucks up.
Most of the time they do stay clear of the pack.
Just a couple of weeks ago I took a beginner out and had him on his feet in no time.
I paddled out with him, board each and and talk to him , pushed him onto a couple and he was off. back to the UK with smiles and photos to show his mates.

Also lately the problem has been the clubbies (life savers) setting the swimmers area where the best bank is... so all the surfers gets pushed down to the straight section with everyone hassling for the few waves that look like they might have a shoulder... just so frustrating (especially when you have made the effort for an 'early').

I spent every weekend learning to surf on my own.
Would never have gone to a learning school ,I just found a quite spot on my own
and practice for hours.
Now I sit out the back and rip my rewards.

Gbanger, your absolutely right.
It gives me the s***s seeing these surf schools operate.
Surfing should be self taught in my opinion.(On proper surfboards)
How can the people doing the teaching call themselves surfers, when all they do is churn out hundreds of kooks clogging the beaches and getting in the way of everyone. We think things are bad now with crowds and aggro in the water. Just imagine what it will be like in the future if they continue.

I’m like most people in that I think clubbies are a necessary evil because when it’s all said and done, they’re there to save lives. So when they’re out there practicing on their longboards and buggering up good waves, I know it’s because they use those things to save lives.

Same goes for the rubber duckys, I hate the 2 stroke stink but again, they save lives.

What pisses me are the boat crews, in the past 20 years I’ve been hit three times by ors and once on the ankle by the bow because I simply can’t move out of the way, quicker than they can’t steer.

That guy at the back is called a “sweep” I think that may be an aboriginal word for “watch out! I can’t steer this frigg’n thing”.

The pain of being hit would be a lot easier to put up with if the boats played some vital role in saving lives but it seems they don’t.

I could argue that they are responsible for taking lives; the last one I’m aware of was a junior life saver in a carnival possibly on the goldy about 8 or 10 years ago.

I hope I'm not offending anyone and they are not doubt great tradition and scource of pride within the clubs, but is it really worth it to keep playing around with what is simply an old whaling dory design from over a hundred years ago?
