The BOM actually has a nice "unbiased" forecast...

Heading off without a forecast can lead you towards a complete waste of time and money... Even if the forecast looks average, you can at least have a half a plan when you set off... As minimum I check to see if the swell is "up to 1m", or "1-2m", or "2.5 to 3.5m".... So I know if I need to pack the guns / shooters or not...
Some days down here, the forecast is for big swell all day, and all day off shore.... So you can give it a miss until 10.30m, let every other sucker get a fill, and hit an uncrowded line-up for 2hrs, especially if it is Mon-Fri...
