great time of year to be in Tassie ,swell wise watch the weather and pick a coastline ,I guess it all depends where your planning on staying? stacks of great waves with easy access and some epic ones with a little motivaton

Thanks LAS. The idea is just to stay in a small village near the surf, with a a decent pub so we can recount tails of how much we ripped (or not) that day over a few froffies, and eat some good food. Looking for advice on the location to be honest.

Bicheno pretty good as a east coast option Marrawah is the go on the west coast ,south coast is a bit tricky it's kinda split into 3 swell zones the Hobart southern beaches , south eastern tasman peninsular area and then bruny island , then the deep south if your really keen but you can be really rewarded for a bit of effort

You know it gets colder the more South you go ?

First time on the longboard forum for a while . Good to see all the regulars still around .

Salty if you are after a little village near the surf with a nice pub I reckon -
East coast - Scamander , pub and plenty of accomodation ,nice breaks pretty close by ( across the road ) ,4 mile creek great spot just down the road . The blokes at Bicheno surf are nice blokes if you want more local info .
West Coast - Marrawah greens beach great spot but not much accommodation unless you want to camp . And a fair drive from Launceston or Hobart if you are flying .West coast is pretty wild normally pretty windy .
South - much more crowded ( probably still very quiet compared to the mainland ) , could base yourself at eaglehawk neck ( the lufra has nice little pub / meals and good accomodation ) - can walk to eaglehawk neck and drive to Park Beach , Carlton River , Nubeena etc . If you are heading south pm 2 MT or Riverrider those blokes have been surfing down there for 50 years plus .
The north coast has some great spots but is pretty fickle so not great for a surfing holiday . If you do end up up here on the northwest give us a call .

Normally still in a spring suit that time of the year .is a few degrees colder down south so maybe pack a 3/2 for down there

Haven't got to Kings yet Ted but do have a camping trip to Flinders Island in the pipeline . Can get a ferry across so take the 4 wd and camper .Getting over to Kings with teenage kids takes a bit of organising have looked into it a while back - involves flying out from Smithton on a small plane - bit exy.

What were you doing there TC?

So what wetties are you Tassie guys wearing in winter compared to the Vics? Same or more rubber?

Thanks mate , my boards have been pretty idle the last few months - not many waves but the couple of bursts we have had have been worth waiting for . Thinking ( hoping ) next week could be something special .

Hows things up your way , spent a few days at Manly few weeks back , lots of great scenery but no waves .

Before that few months back flew up to the Gold Coast for the weekend - organised a loner board for the weekend - no waves .

Been that sort of winter for me .

Yeah that type of winter for me too my boards have been pretty much the same, not a lot of free time at the moment but a few well picked days have meant a few good surfs, not enough though..

St Helens and Bruny island are your best bet...

South Bruny normally cranks at that time of year, also has some specco walks from long to short, tassie's best oysters, ross pennicot boat cruise (which wins all our tourist awards), is rarely crowded and will break even with no swell and will be offshore most days. also has close access to huon valley which has awesome wine and micro breweries. Bruny is only a short drive/ferry from hobart.

St Helens or Scamander will open up loads of options too.

West coast is awesome but tends to be onshore a lot at that time of year.
