Cool, tell us about the ride of your life... It's a Longboard Forum!
And what you were you riding!?

For me;
1) September 2012, Winki... Scored a massive wide set, on my 9'6 McTavish Gun Longboard... Ended up in the channel, down near the cave... I was delirious in the middle of the ride... It was so big, clean, perfect... so blue!

2) An awesome session at Mawi, on Lombok. 1.5 overhead lefts... Got barrel after barrel for 3 hours! Got belted on wave of the day, pulled into the biggest thing, and it chewed me up! I was bodyboarding! I rested on the beach for 15 minutes, to clear water out of the nostrils! A older Yankee came over to chat to me, and he said he had no idea "those things" (the booger!) could be ridden like that!

3) I remember surfing perfect green sand bottom barrels on my own at Collendina (next to Ocean Grove), when I was about 19... On the boogie board... Not a drop of water out of place...

Two particular rides for me.

Rainbow Bay surfing with Mac & MR, caught a wave that took me over 600m down into Greenmount beach, board was my 10' SDR Whalebone, stepped off onto the beach and walked back and put the board on the roof, was never going to better that ride on the day.

Second was surfing Arrawarra with Obct, paddled right out the back, caught the first wave, scooting down the wave dragging my fingers across the face when I looked up to see the bubble trail and realised the wave was at least 4-5' above my head. Caught another 3-4 like that before conditions deteriorated. Biggest, fastest waves ever for me. Board was the same 10' whalebone.

My best Longboard ride has been similar to Vanders 4-5 foot LM stepping off the beach at Greenmount on the redline on an epic winter morning

Uluwatu on the kneelos with a mate in our early twenties probably six foot and clean and super fast

Massive Terrigal Haven on the kneelos in winter on a southerly swell with 10 foot faces taking off next to the rocks and riding monster waves out into the deep water off Terrigal I will always remember that weekend the lifeguards were practising big wave rescues and sadly one of them drowned

Can be a fun wave that one Boofy. For me every time I catch the first wave on a new board that I have made - nothing beats that feeling knowing that it floats and can turn. Still freaks me out.

Point Plomer ...week after Easter this year....6ft RH point break...inside take off trying to beat the crowd.
Surprised myself (nearly sh1t myself too...steeeeeep) and made the drop and got around the foam ball ..Had a wild ride of steep walling face.
Pushed the board all the way into the beach break..stepped of in need deep water and walked back along the beach 300mtr or so to the car........was freakin epic.

Camping at Point Plomer in March this year. First morning out of the camper, stretched, farted and checked out front of the camp ground to see a weak one foot of swell and three surfers already on it. Hmmm, I said to myself what about a quick look around at Queens Head. So in the car with my trusty 9' 6" McT FB and round I go. A quick walk along the track to the break to be greeted with a six foot swell, gentle offshore with two other blokes hitting it. Spent the next 3 hours and another 2 hours later in the arvo cranking beautiful right handers into the corner where the rip would pick me and take me back out to the lineup. Even when a shark came around for a look it wasn't going to deter us that day. I think we've all had road trips when things didn't work out sur or weatherl wise. This was one of those exceptions when everything turned out perfect. Perfect waves, weather and crowd. A fire every evening and a fine bottle of red and the company of my lovely wife and no kids. Good stuff.

1990 surfed North Point in the morning at about 12 foot face with about 3 other people where we were taking off. That was pretty good, but I only remember all the free falling take offs when I didn't paddle hard enough or commit or whatever I was doing wrong. Some of the worst beatings of my life, but that afternoon...

Drove down the hill into Yallingup, huge lines rolling in & super clean (rare for WA arvo's). We paddled out & it seemed like it didn't matter how far out you paddled, there was still a wave breaking further out the back. So I found I was just paddling out until I met a wave that looked good & I'd have a crack at it. Then there was this one wave towards the end of the session, I'd paddled heaps further out and this massive wave came. I paddled, took off & remember thinking oh no, too deep. I came off the bottom and this thing through over one of the biggest backhand barrels I've ever surfed in my life. I was slotted for probably only 4 or 5 seconds. But it felt like such a long time. I can kind of compare it to the time I rolled my first car at 120kms/h. JUst the adrenalin rush or something seems to slow things down when you feel like your in serious danger.

Next was a place round from Apollo Bay in1996, I forget the name of the beachie We were the only ones on the beach in the middle of summer. We had a nice little bank to ourselves and a bigger wave came through. I took off and had a standing barrel for I don't 6 or 7 seconds seconds absolutely screaming along. It was the longest barrel of my life until about 2003. But it was such a beautiful clean day.

But the best wave I've ever had was 3 years ago at airport rights. The swell was building as the tide was on the way up. I'd cut my foot on the second wave coz it was still a bit shallow and waves were only head height. But 90 mins later it was over double and still really clean (no wind). Waves were breaking off the second bubble and it was still shallow enough for them too be nice and sucky. I took off on this wave that had heaps of wall. Bottom turned and cut back with the top turn just as it hit the main reef. Into the barrel, riding along and briefly out before backdooring the next section as the wave picked up pace. I was absolutely flying along as I could see the wave almost shutting down in front of me I was so deep on the next section I thought it was over. But I was going so fast I was just looking down this long cylinder of Bali glass and came out at the end into deep water. Easily the best wave of my life

Had some great waves, but nothing beats that feeling you get when your looking out from a deep barrel. I really appreciate it, coz it doesn't happen that often for me.
