It was a crazy day, this guy was playing his big stick.

I took the FB out and had a shocker, the banks have changed and with a lot of water movement,it was hard to find a good spot to sit.Back tomorrow to right the wrongs of today.

Oh the crazy guy walked out to the rocks at snapper and started playing,he was good and entertaining

This is my local and for many a year, today was weird the banks have moved and the swell was missing coming from dead south and not hitting the spot.Very unlike its self I was talking to a few guys in the water who I bump into often and we were all buggered to find the spot.I put it down to the good swell we had last week.

smh,it was 3 foot but strange very peaky not the normal down the line perfect peelers.

Anyway back tomorrow with new board and fin set up,the FB sucked today.

That splitty is a really well executed rat.

I was never a type 2 expert but there's some interesting stuff on that van.

It looks like he may have gone to the trouble of doing the front safari windows himself. Very few, if any, splitties in this country came with safari windows unless they were fully imported rather than assembled in Oz.

And I'd be interested to know about the running gear but just looking at those pics is good enough to make the assumption that he's done a good bit of work under it.

Lowering the front of any type 2 was a reasonably straightforward task but the rear was difficult.

All the splitties used “bus reduction gears” and swing axles at the rear, that simply means that the centre of the wheel was 3 or 4 inches lower than the centre of the axel.

If you tried to lower a kombi with the reduction boxes in situ, it would only ever go down a limited amount and after wards, it would have this appallingly stupid looking negative camber attitude on the rear wheels, like this: /---\ .

His does not seem to have that and yet it's very low, to me that indicates that he's swapped the rear end to a standard beetle Type 1 swing axel or later IRS.

Because there still looks to be a tiny bit of negative camber on the rear wheels, I'd say it would be an early beetle swing axle box but probably the most telling clue would be the fact that the rear wheels still look to use the original wide 5 bolt pattern.

If that's the case, those mags would have been really hard to get, he probably imported them direct from the states.

And that's a really heavy-duty bong the guy in the bottom pic is taking a pull on

Hey Mac we got their about 6 yesterday I know what you mean about the weird swell there was only really 2 take off areas and it got packed quick I got one wave floated down to greenmount and got out. I was out last w/end and the ( crazy guy ) I think his name is Gus was playing his didge as the sun came up at the front of Snapper it was quiet and a real eerie moment he is there most week ends at dawn. I was talking to him yesterday and the rifts he is playing on his didge are talking to the sea creatures sharks dolphins etc so I say piss the whale killing shark nets off and give the money to old Gus to keep the sharks away.
He also told me during the Quikky pro he was playing his didge to close to Taj Burrow, Taj wacked the end of the didge into Gus's mouth bad Kharma headed Taj,s way me thinks

I'd love to get up there one day and have a surf there. I've never ridden it the way it is now. I spoke to a guy who reckons you just hang half way out and wait.
I'll get some shots of waves around here and put them up. Its looking ok this week.

I never even thought to look at the steering wheel.

I think a lot more barn doors were sold with safari windows over there because they were all imported.

Didn't matter all that much because if you're in the states there are plenty of companies that still sell the conversion.
