Any full time longboarders have one in there quivwr, I'm thinking a great style of board for the older longboarder as a bigger day alternative but at 7+ ft it's still a big board

I was amazed how great my shortboard felt the other day. Apart from Bali in Jan, I've only ridden a shortboard twice this year & it was my other one. I have a board which is 6'4 x 21.5 x 2.5, 38L with a little rocker/little tail kick, quad fins & it absolutely flies. There are some nice hybrid boards to choose from these days. If your looking for a board for bigger waves, just go short & wide. How wide depends how hollow your local bigger waves are

Depends on the waves...you could ride a 7+ board every time it hits 3 feet down here no problems as long as you have a a lot of top end speed and the board works well in the high line your laughing and will probably get a lot longer rides than guys on shorter equipmnet as your making more sections...

At a guess BP, you might be better suited to a modern Tracker Equivalent, which is the Sumo... The Rincon '68 from McTavish is also a modern Tracker, but it never really became a model... Ring up the shop, and ask Bob for a Rincon '68, 2+1...

I think the sumo would be a bitch in bigger waves with that wide nose...it just looks like it will catch....grom man time to guide him down the speed shape way....

If I was forced to go down the McTavish path for bigger waves,I would go a big arse bob sled or carver

in this clip here the bobsled does not look like a vertical board at all - yes the waves are not ideal but I could think of many diff boards that would be more well suited. If you are after something for the bigger days then I am inclined to say that the Bobsled is not the one you want.
