I've snapped two Walden epoxy s (9'6" & 10')in very average(not big) conditions both less than 6 months old. Of course once repaired they have limited flex and broke again. m I the only one not touching GSI epoxy s any more?

I think it just shows that any board can break despite claims that epoxy boards are stronger. The surftech epoxy boards do stand up better to heel dents than most glass boards. A 2 foot shorey will snap a 9 foot board.
It sounds like you've been pretty unlucky. What are you going to get now ?

That is unusual.

Waldens tend to last for years.

I had an epoxy 10' Walden for 3 years and only just recently sold it. It is not as robust as surftech for sure. I'm just wondering if GSI are using the same materials used from a couple of years back or whether they are Inventing these E2 and E3 names (not inventing the concept) and using slightly less durable materials than before? Just a thought.

I agree. I know a guy with a GSI Mc T Fireball. He loves it to ride but reckons the glass job is crap Too light and too brittle. He reckons he's going to get a real one.

Sister and brother in law in surf retail give family discount(cost price I hope) on surf gear but they supply mostly GSI boards so for my next board(non GSI) it looks like full price.

Ok - in my experience with both epoxy boards and gsi I have found that certain gsi epoxy boards are pretty bombproof - the best being the nsp range. I have certainly never heard of any real problems with the waldens but in my opinion the nsp's are and have always been the ducksnutz quality wise (quality of construction)
When gsi did the southpoint boards - especially the bongas I personally saw at least half a dozen that had been snapped and heard of many more on top of that.
Bic also make very very tough epoxy boards that I rate highly for their construction and are certainly as good as or maybe even better than the nsp boards.
I personally do not like slx construction and do not think it is suitable for the general surfer because I don't believe there is any benefit in having a longboard that light for one, and every slx mal I have seen looks like a 2 year old 4oz shortboard - covered in repairs and depressed to the sh#thouse.
Tuflite epoxy in my opinion is by far the best epoxy construction in the world and I believe that in many cases is even better than standard PU board construction. It is most definately superior in ding resistance to any other surfboard construction - BUT it is not un-breakable, and I have seen many more tuflite boards snapped than PU boards.
Just my thoughts.

red or blue?

I bought my girlfriend the girlie walden longboard in pu for christmas a couple years back good board still doesn't have any dings in it. One issue is that it's too wide for girls to carry. Talked to the guy in the McT shop once about the slx fireball, they said i was too heavy footed to own one, top of my board looks like a golf ball.

I'm not sure if the Meyerhoffers look like the worlds biggest odor eater or the worlds biggest panty liner or just really dumb looking.

Although I'm not too well versed in design principals of surf'n I can follow clues and one I've noted with interest is the so called "Competition Model".

Take a close look at it in comparison to the original and lo and behold, its shape is evolving closer towards the shape of a normal board, and not towards a more radicalised version of the original shape.

I don't know what that says to you, but to me it says the original was too crappy to go any further with.

personally I reckon they look like a floating peanut - and carrying one down the beach I reckon thats exactly what you would feel like. And no I haven't tried one and I don't care how well they supposedly surf, I would not been seen dead on one. And if anyone wants an as new 8ft one I have a mate with one who would part with it cheap.
