I fall a bit of a ways short of being one of the top 10 longborders in the world however I may make the bottom 10. Up until now I’ve had a reasonably strong arsenal of excuses:- too old, too fat, started too late, no natural ability, learning difficulties, bad knees, Haemorrhoids, Tourette’s syndrome you name the excuse, I’ve used it, well perhaps not Haemorrhoids and Tourette’s syndrome, but if I could I would.

I wish to add one other to my stash of pathetic excuses, “doh….I think I must be using da wrong wax”

Yesterday arvo I had my back foot slip off the board twice because the wax was a bit glassy. This was despite the fact that I gave it some wax before I went in and only the week before I had given it a pretty good comb. You could feel that it was really smooth and rock hard. It was billabong and I got it from SDS in the city. Wax is about the only thing they now sell in the city store that even remotely relates to the sport of surfing.

It was covering my usual wax which is Mrs Palmers but I’m unsure of the blend, probably the warm water stuff.

On the way home I popped into the local shop and asked for the softest wax they had, he gave me the green sex wax. Today before I went out, I took off about 80% of the old stuff, put the sex wax on, gave it a real good comb and did another layer all over.

I went out and found a big difference, my feet stuck like poop to a blanket, which is probably a bad thing because I now have to revert back to all my old excuses.

Do you guys switch to a different wax in winter or maybe the same brand but a different blend?

Don’t know why they call it “sex wax” it’s a not got a nice stink about it, that smell would put me right off sex. If of course I was in a position to find someone who would do it with me, what with my Haemorrhoids & Tourette’s syndrome.

Another great story obct. Oh the old sex wax,I used it in my grommie day's
Why,probably because of the marketing
I always use Mrs Palmers (the best grip around) Ultra Sticky. Living in QLD I don't change to the Cooler Water during winter. My son always uses sex wax and changes from warm to cool water wax.
Thanks for adding to my excuse list I found some new ones

I switched to a softer/winter wax a few weeks ago now. I think you'll find most people do change thier wax seasonally.
What ever happened to the original "Green Stuff" wax.? That was the best soft wax ever.
Im pretty sure its called "sexwax" because anything with sex sells well........

or.........

Maybee its the wax pro surfers use to wax thier boards while thier having sex????

I'm a fan of the good Dr's sex wax. I do change it seasonally though, it generally coinsides with my need to take the 10kg of wax I've put on the board through out the summer/winter.

One thing I do is put the really hard tropical stuff as a "base" and the soft stuff on top. Not sure why think I use it as an excuse to stay in the garage longer and not do house work.

I'm glad I asked the question, it's starting to sound as if the sexwax is a good choice after all.

At least where there's a bit of seasonal change in water temps.
