I know everyone has their favourite brands, but what is your waxing technique? Do you use the same wax as a base coat? Should wax every surf? How often do you scrape it all off and start again? What is the best wax? I have seen some grouse wax jobs with patterns and such, how do you do that? Am I thinking about it way too much?

i use palmers, loved it through summer..but thought it was a bit soapy through winter
tried the dream cream sex wax that cmc recommended, crazy sticky, yet unless you got your fins out or doing airs, keep away, i was still trying to wash that crap off my hands a week later. i take the wax off my board all the time( i cannot build stuff) so i have a few cold ones and play with the sexy bitch. patterns, nup, i can do cool ones with grip tape on sk8rs though

Sexwax (the normal stuff not the super sticky) run tropic for the base coat, and then red or orange over the top more often then not red. My board tends to get a bit warm so keeping wax on it can be a bit of a challenge. I don't like a huge build up of wax personally.

Crazy try this stuff, doesn't melt...

I started using it 6 months or so ago, it is great. I used palmers / farking for years but really like this stuff, not to sticky but grippy enough. Comes in big blocks two and did I say it doesn't melt if you leave it in he car.. Which I do with my boards all the time.

My 14 yo son did a big school project and he chose to cover the art of surf wax.

He kept telling his mum his homework required him to go surfing and he needed his dad for technical feedback.

Kids a gem. love his work

Anyhow I funded an example of pretty much every kind of wax available in Newy and he youtubed all the application techniques. Then we tested.

My favourite..... An initial build up with sexwax hard applied in straight lines diagonally until 10mm or so lumps appear.
A second coat of bubblegum stickit all water temp. In itself a very good wax.
Finally just a few light stokes of sexwax dream cream. This stuff is super sticky. First time I used it I used far too much and ended up coverd in it and couldn't wash it off. Missus got glued to me in bed which was cool for me but didn't make her too happy.

Surprised me how crap some brands were.

great post! I also used a little too much of that cream the first time round....these days its my fav though. Would not be too much fun on a long board I would imagine as you can never move your get! On the shortie it absolutely rocks!

I don't know a lot about the subject, but one thing I do know is, never use super sticky SB wax on a LB.

Made that mistake when I got given 2 blocks of stomp in a promo and decided to redo both boards with it before a trip to PP.

Every time I tried to pop up, I was stuck to the board like sh1t to a blanket

Then when I tried to move around, it felt like I had bricks tied to my feet

I used to use sex wax or Farking wax , I figured a lot of farking can't be a bad thing

Lately I have changed tp Palmers , seems easier to apply .

I am using the cold water version though which would be different to what you blokes up north are using .

I use that when I can find it....or when I run out of the ten blocks that I get for Christams of the kids every year....hard wax on the bottom soft wax on top...only come of when I travel...wax up nearly every surf....
