the mrs is starting to think about buying a retirement place in QLD and i said i would ask you cats what some good suburbs would be just north of the boarder we could start investigating. Obviously close to good surf would be cool too. We currently live in Newcastle so not familiar with good, safe retirement type areas up there.
Excuse the spelling ive had a few beers.

Around 600k. We would like to be close ish to the ocean. At the moment we are 18kms from the beach which is a half hour drive, so closer than that. Small easy care yard, if any. Maybe even some type of town house thing, but i think is still need a man shed.

global warming is another factor to consider when relocating ...during the last round of northerlies the stingers made it down to Fraser Island and reports of some at Mooloolaba ..if this is to become the norm then SE Qld waters in summer may become unusable ...

I am reliably informed that the Cow Herding & Blue Staffordshire tending is good around 45 minutes north of the goldie ..... might have been Agnes Waters

We thought Caloundra was really nice. We were there in July & the weather was great. There's some awesome reef breaks & heaps of uncrowded sand breaks & nearby beachies. I say sand breaks, coz out in front of the river the waves break way out on sandbanks far from the beach. There's epic mountains up behind the town with lots of fruit & veges for sale straight from the growers on the way there. Its an easy drive to brizzy & noosa is just down the road with heaps of beachies in between. Its a relaxed place with all the shops you need accessed by uncrowded roads.

We stayed in a resort style apartment complex 1 mins walk to Kings Beach with a swimming pool, sauna, gym & tennis courts. Underground parking & good size storage space. Some apartments were for sale & we thought they were great value at $250k to $350k depending on no. of bedrooms & location. Although we considered the body corporate fees a bit high, can't remember how much they were now. But if you used the facilities frequently it would have been good value, I just didn't think I would.

Looking around back then (2009), real estate was quite cheap in Caloundra. The sunshine coast is (or was) great value for places close to the beach unless you were looking at walking distance to the Noosa foreshore.

I'd recommend just taking a few holidays around Queensland & see what area you like the most. We stayed in Byron, Coolangatta, Caloundra & Noosa over 3 weeks & our favourite places were Ballina & Caloundra. We had 3 days left unplanned for the end of our holiday & we spent them in Caloundra.
