You need to lookout for a Reactive board and welcome to the forum.

Firstly welcome to the forum if you take away just one bit of advice its make sure its a reactive board Mac gave me the same advice when I joined seabreeze I took it and havent looked back

Its not a brand its a feeling, looking at your name you look to be Hawaiian reactiveness is sort of like "Mana" its a feel its not in all boards you will have to demo a few boards you will know when you find it

it doesnt necessarily make you a better surfer just makes you more in tune with your board and the sealife

Serious mate it depends on how much money you have to spend,
if you have surfed before and, if you want a longboard at your size which is about the same as me. I would look for 9,6x 23 x3 dimensions maybe buy one second hand if it is your first board. where do you live anyone on here can steer you in the right direction

For your height & weight, and Brewer Nose Rider could be a good starting point.

9'6 x 23 x 3 and a bit.

Where are you located? I also have a Billy Hamilton Hyperform. 2nd hand Surftech could be a good starting point. They are durable and tough, which is good when you are starting... You will learn though you mistakes... You will drop a slippery board, and you might even lose control in the wind as you put it on the roof... You'll knock it on stairs and handrails... Surftech Tufflite boards are your friend in this learning stage!

The surfing;
It's worth paying for a lesson at first.
But here's some IMPORTANT tips;

1) It's much harder than it looks... It might take you 4-10 weeks before you starting having fun, and it can literally takes 1-2 years before you start to feel quite competent.

2) Paddle REALLY hard for waves

3) Learn to get to your feet quickly, but with cat like balance... It's all about timing...

4) The hardest part is getting a wave, timing the paddling, actually getting onto it, and getting to your feet with more good timing... watch and you will learn... The riding the wave part isn't actually that hard, especially if you have some skateboard or similar board experience.

May be able to put you onto a reputable shop for advice/demo.

If you are after a longboard you probably need a 9.6+ and if you are just starting out spend as little as possible. You will pick up a reasonable board to get started on for under $500.

nah its not doggie,doggie has carried out some board repairs for newguy,hope he is ok
