this is just my thoughts i got into longboarding for the grace and style which this type of board offers. the noserides, trimming and drawn out cutties now everyone seems to be on the h/p lb bandwagon. i have worked out that i want my next board to be a sb with more foam, which will allow me to to get my aggro out when i dont want to be cruising or im riding suckky waves. i think h/p lb looks like sh1t by about 99% of riders. so is h/p lb really got a place? if it is for performance wouldnt you just buy a sb and keep lb for what it is...styling

That's why I think higher performance models like The Fireball should be ordered in "Styling Tints"!

I hear you Chrispy. I personally like the way you can drive off the bottom and off the top, on a HP. Laying some nice smooth power turns, followed up with a little bit of cruising up towards the nose, once you've got some speed.

I also have more control on HP's, so I can be more guaranteed to miss other surfers in the way!

But I agree with your train of thought.

I'm torn between getting the Gleave (been sniffing the site all arvo) or going traditional (but bit like the bloke who can't decide what knickers to buy the girl hot red/black lace or silken dreams?????) hmmmmm !
Green for teasing me anyway.

hearing you young cock HP for comps and fast sucky waves that you can't make on a board for styling and cruising imo

Bulldog, you need the 62Mac model! A little bit old school, and little bit new school....

http://www.mctavish.com.au/surfboard/62Mac-model

Description
The 62Mac is a classic board blended with a little bit of high performance. We took the Redline and the Fireball and fused them together. It will perform in a wide range of conditions, with a slight orientation to classic riding, but you can jam it hard off the bottom if you want to. It's a classic looking board available in triple stringer, splayed stringers, or single stringer. Only available in tints and pigments. We can do this board in rounded pin, square, and we can even cut a diamond into the tail. Available as either a single, or with side bites. By custom order only.

I really dig Lb for the style.....watching guys like Edan at LM and some of the girls there is sweet......what some of the top guys/girls can do on the HP LB's is amazing but I prefer style....its all a personal thing

I think a bit of both depending on your mood or the waves. You see guys flapping around on longboards trying to ride them like short boards and most of the time it looks ugly. The really good riders make it look good . When I first got into a longboard club I was riding it like a short board ( or trying to ) and there were some guys cross stepping and nose riding and putting it all together and I thought that looked really good so I was pretty keen on learning that. It took ages to learn to cross step up and back and get on the nose a bit but I reckon it's worth learning to do. It looks better than shuffling. So wether you ride 3 finned hp boards or singles I reckon mixing it up is the go and getting walking the board wired as well. I'm with you Bulldog on that Gleave model it look pretty good.

yeah good thoughts chrispy...but I think you are being a bit harsh about the 99%...there are a lot of longboarders on hp that are very stylish surfers ...lot of flappers too, granted...lot of guys should just stay with the short board....but good style will never die whether its on a high performance longboard or a logger...I think a longboard quiver is as important as any other quiver and I agree with smh "mixing it up is the go".... there is talk of logger sections in some comps now so it seems that fashion will steer it to some degree....but what it does mean is that the flow and style of longboarding is alive and well so dont worry chrispy the style masters will always be on top

Sorry i don't agree, i agree with the sentiment but not the statement, Just cause it's a hp doesnt mean you cant surf it with a bit of style and like a longboard is meant to, sorry but Logs just don't turn quick enough or drive off the bottom in some waves hence the HP option is preferred, doesn't mean you cant Trim it nose ride it etc. what else are you going to do its a LB,
But i do agree with the bit about guys trying to ride them like a shortie, if you just stand on the tail and bang turns all the way down the line then just buy a shortie.

And the fat guy is ripping...

been surfing a few different FireWire boards lately. These are really thick and have a lot of float in them, easy paddling too. I never thought I would be surfing on a board under 7 ft again

I wonder if it was as easy to catch waves on a SB, would more longboarders be riding them?

I don't have much style on a LB My SB surfing is not much different just a bit tighter and quicker, I agree with smh and mixing it up is the go. There is definitely room in my quiver for a log style board (right after a uf8).
