you cant beat wax crispy, it melts on to your car, sticks to your boardshorts, is probably carcinogenic and will go missing on the best wave of your life

I tried one once but it didn't do me much good so I got rid of it just in case it was causing a bit of drag.

I think if you're a really good longboarder they would be a plus.

I thought they would help you push down harder on the back foot so you could really swing the nose around hard and have less chance of the back foot slipping off.

For me they were just a hinderance because I was feeling for it with my back foot rather that concentrating on just turning the thing.

Coud not have said it better. I find them great on short boards as you slide your foot back when you get up until it hits the raised area and you know that your foot is right in the sweet spot. I find the raised bar helps lock your foot when pushing turns. However there is a downside to them - notably that they rip your knees up when you duck-dive in the summer. Most wetsuits now have a decent protective layer that stop them destroying yr suit. I used to use them for 10 yrs straight then went off them about 3 yrs back - brought a second hand board with one on about 12 mths ago and went out and got new grips for my other boards the next day. I had forgotten how good they are. But the summer scabs are not good!!! Be warned. Make sure you get one with a raised bit at the back.

Pads - should be banned on most tinted boards, and most longboards. I had a longboard that came with one already on it. From memory, I never really made it down to the pad. Long smooth turns can happen just in front of the pad. From memory, that pad was set way back though.

Maybe I just never really thought about the pad...
