I have some family visiting in March keen for surf lessons as part of the Aussie experience - especially a 10yo kiddo. Beginners, happy to surf some foam.

I get March is not great, but I just looked up one school and saw they've suspended lessons due to the woeful conditions. Is it still doable, and any advice on what beaches are best for beginners right now? (ranging from Trigg to Secret Harbour in geography)

I'd try Secret Harbor
The Trigg/Scarborough stretch IMO would be horrible for beginners
Think short dumpy waves that would pitch you into the sand in knee deep water.
That's the reality of Perth
Had a chat to the lifeguards the other week and they said there had been a lot of spinal injuries this summer
It really is that woeful in Perth

If you are in the Northern suburbs a trip to Lancelin back beach could be good if you know how to read the wind & swell graphs. We've had days where the kids got 50m plus rides on little rolling tiddlers... great fun for them.

Right now Trigg is just terrible - no matter what size it's just a harsh dumper and has been quite rippy. Dangerous for anyone let alone learners...

One spot to keep an eye on is the South side of Hillary's Marina sea wall. Can get a small (tiny) little wave - I've seen it breaking at kiddy size three times this Summer (I have been swimming).
