There's an amazing right up near Lizard Island, just reels for hundreds of meters. Fished around it for a few days 20 or so years ago.

Edit: It's much better than this one above that breaks down Lady Elliot.

Dont know if he is still around but Jody Perry used to run charters up there

If you go right out to the end of the reef it really is sketchy out there, not sure I would like to surf that far out

Look at everyone giving red thumbs down for a few blokes even roughly naming some places. Settle down! No one is gonna fly across the country on search of a bloke naming something. Quit beating your chests guys, I'm getting pretty sick of the egos involved around keeping places secret...

It's Lady Elliot Slainte, but don't tell anyone, it's a secret spot. About as secret as Bluff or Tombies over here.

I spent a couple of years in my teens fishing the reef and the whole joint is littered with waves. The hard part is getting all the elements to come together, most of the waves are 50 to 150k's offshore, completely open to the elements, anything over 10kts renders most unsurfable. And then there's the currents, and the sharks, and the irukandji, and the crocs, big crocs hundreds of k's out to sea.

I really don't think it's in danger of becoming crowded.

Would be epic kiting or windsurfing though.....

The thing you have to worry about isn't the handful of WA members on here. It's the potentially 100s or 1000s who are from Queensland that just lurk. Plus the information put out is permanent. You make a killer thread with photos of an epic break like Trigg Point and guaranteed it'll gather many, many more views than from the half dozen or so that reply to the thread.

mate thousands of queenslanders know about the reef for surf, the point about the post is that its that hard because of weather, tides, swell, wind, sharks, expense and the distance in BIG boats, there's 1000s of surfers that travel down the coast to surf beaches and points that wont go out there, you could sit in a boat for 8 months and not get a good wave, its not indo

Yeah, I didn't mean this wave in particular, I mean "naming of spots online" in general. There are many more views of online content than some people realise, and you've gotta treat the content as permanent.

Totally agree. There's a couple of big sandy islands that have epic waves in a wider range of conditions much closer and easier access that hardly get crowded. Far easier options available. You could give the GPS coordinates of the spots on that reef and you'd never see another boat. Lack of land mass and an ordered shelf to control the swell mean it is so fickle that even the Agnes guys head out very irregularly and come home empty handed often. Outsiders have no chance.

Besides, I wouldn't like to surf anywhere without a sealed carpark, coffee shop and shower, just way too hard

Legion you need to lay off the choof.

Spot is not a secret spot, it's in the bloody UBD FFS, nor is Dewars(Derrs), nor is Bluff or Tombies, or Wedge, or Lano or even the Montes or Barrow or dozens of breaks down south.

Conversely magic little banks like that one at bennion st earlier this year, or meets or flozza when they're on deserve to be kept quiet. They're generally a fleeting moment and the fun is over in a week or less.

There's no harm done in someone saying they had good waves somewhere that is common knowledge.

Get over it.

Hey legion i respect a lot of your views but mate your wrong on this one.
you WA guys have some nice spots you want to keep quiet that's your business, i think you get a lot of tourist looking for fine WA waves over there.
But this is not the ZOO (goldcoast) that we are talking about and anyone from around Australia that wants to surf the barrier reef...... GOOD F****N LUCK
