According to Ben P he actually won several heats and finished second in the other. His foil is smaller than my stab (and probably as sharp as my chef's knife). Crazy.

Signing in not registration.
They have to sign in and sign out after the race so they know that all the sailors have come ashore after the race. Its 30+ knots offshore wind, 9k legs (usually longer) and 200+ sailors (usually 1000). Very easy to lose someone at sea.

He forgot to sign out , but all in all (after 7 races) Antoine Albeau won the defi.

First two races were a disaster for NG, he lost his foil on the first and tore his sail on the second.
Being DSQ meant he couldn't discard a result.
So after those two races there was no way he could win it, his brother Thomas though was leading for a while.

Race seven was epic to watch with a duel between him (on foil) and Pierre Mortefon (fin), with Pierre taking the win on the last reach. (only to be be DSQ'd too !!!)

awesome to see people (not average people though ) foiling and winning in those conditions !

Lots of sailors used foils in lighter winds at the start of the event. In Ben Proffit's interviews several said they didnt have a foil wings small enough for the really windy days. The PWA slalom sailors would pick fins for proper downwind slalom, so doubt they have trained on smaller foil wings.

Four wins in 7 races for the Goyard brothers is pretty impressive. But why are there fewer than 200 racers listed in the results? I thought previous events had 1000+ participants.

Seemed like they had a kind of knock out where a certain number of the lower groups got to race with the super stars. There were at least 200 in the first race and only 80 or so made it through so total sailors where more than 200...

Last race he had some peak speed of 35knts side by side with the other french guy on fin !

He won but was DQed. He beat the fin guys in huge wind on a 350 wing. Amazing result. Shows what is possible with foiling.

Kind of annoying thread title, when it is actually Antoine Albeau and Blanca Albeau who won the Defi ... talk about fake news!

Right now Goyard seems to be the only one who can keep going on foil above a certain wind speed. But it is just a matter of time before others join in and unless fins enter another step in development the conditions in which they can beat a foil are shrinking!

I agree that the title is Fake News. Title should be N Goyard wins race with 350 front wing, but lost defi.

Also keep in mind that this was a long distance race , with heaths lasting 20 or 30 km's, where the foil was able to gain much less advantage from the jibes than in the Tiberias event.

And to think we all spent decades trying to perfect our slapper gybes. Oh well, such is life.
