New Year new kit (Video)

A quick little edit from an early new year session up here in the Northern hemisphere (Ireland) with a balmy 8c air and 8c water temp

Getting used to a new foil setup with the Fanatic Stingray Ltd 115 and the Fanatic Flow 3.0 alu, 90cm mast, 90cm fuse and Flow 1000 front with. Have had a couple of sessions on it now mostly in 5.3, small wind swell type conditions and one lovely side shore, small swell day when the wind dropped after wave sailing. This was gusty 4.2 weather.

Bit of a change after spending the last couple of years on a JP hydro 135 and AFS Wind 95, also keeping these for freeride / blasting, new setup is great fun for playing around on with small sails and lovely to just pick up a small swell to glide and play on. Definitely more biased towards front foot weighting even with the foil mast mounted well back from the recommended position. Flow 1000 wing is a little twitchy at lower speeds but is lovely to turn and stays very controllable as it gets faster, not trying to push up and breach. Also have a Flow 1500 on order so will be interesting to see what that is like in really light wind and maybe even give the winging a go

nice looking gybes bro. Do you find this set up easier to foil through your gybes than your 135/AFS?

Yeah, how does it compared to the AFS W95, and what AFS wing(s) did you have? For my weight 86 kg in light winds I think I need to pump the F1080 wing to get through the gybe without touching down, since I am going relatively slow on purpose.

The Hydro / AFS combo is a bit easier to gybe particularly with the 1080 front wing. The foil is just that bit more stable, particularly at low speed and the extra width of the 135 gives a bit more room for error with the foot placement. Took me a couple of sessions to get the gybes dialled in on this, particularly not letting the weight creep back on the exit.

I also have the S800 and S670 wings for the AFS, both are also pretty easy to gybe but you do need to maintain a little more speed to keep flying. For reference I'm around 95kg.

Real difference with this setup is the manoeuvrability, have the straps set inboard so the turning is really responsive and great fun to play around with. Th 135 feels a bit like a truck afterwards but for blasting or longer distances it's really stable and easy so will be holding on to it too.

Does the hydro/afs have a further sail to foil distance to the fanatic setup? I find a short distance makes things much more maneverable but gybing a bit more tricky

Our warmest month here in West coast Canada is ~11.5c
Not uncommon to sail river mouths running with snow melt at 1c in the spring. That'll wake you up in the morning.

Yeah, the mast base is further back on the stingray so that certainly has something to do with it.

@Grantmac that's proper hard core!

Yes, my Stingray 140 LTD has the mast track located to make my usual 42 inches from the front fin bolt hole be in the middle of the track.

Also, the twin tracks exactly straddle the DT box.
