I've managed to get a friend of mine to get back into windsurfing and have managed to convince him to go the foiling route. He doesn't have a huge budget so I'm on the lookout for used gear for him.

I'm on a 140L Fanatic Stingray with a Fanatic Flow Foil (1000 and 1500 wings) at my weight of 82kgs. I'd ideally like to get him on the same setup because I'm personally happy with it. But given we're looking at 2nd hand one can't be too picky.

Question for the group is what other gear/brands would you recommend for him? He weighs 78kgs. He had a go on my Stringray yesterday and felt comfortable on it from a balance perspective though didn't get flying on it (just slogged around for 10 minutes).

Board considerations:
- Enough volume for someone who is beginner/early-intermediate skill level (not sure if want to recommend anything less than 135L on a wide board). Stingrays come in 125L but feel it might be risky going that small at his level.
- Track mount compatible so that we can dial in any foil we get and allows one to tune balance as one progresses.

Foil considerations:
- I like the Fanatic Flow but that's all I know.
- Thinking maybe the i76 which I hear a lot about but don't see much of on Seabreaze. Starboard GT-R?
- Want to stay away from older foils (e.g. pre 2020) like Fanatic H9. Seems like there's been a lot of progress made in a short amount time.

General thoughts/comments appreciated. Thanks.

Stay over 1200 sqs.
Went back to my "18 Naish 1220 and it works great.
Any board over 125.

Update on this, we've pulled the trigger on some demo gear. Got a Fanatic Flow foil with 900 and 1250 foils. This is pretty similar to my setup (1000 and 1500 wings) so happy with this.

Now just out for board recommendation. The shop where I bought the demo gear recommended the Naish Galaxy. A bit pricey though at $3200 (they only have them new). I like the idea of this board though for someone who's looking for an initial one board solution. Shame it doesn't come with a track mount though.

Not sure if the hybrid boards will have track mounts since they will be drag when in fin mode.

Ive got a JP freefoil 130 and find the more I move around with the track the more I end up back close to the tuttle position anyway. But yes its fun fiddling with all this stuff but you end up moving everything to suit eg footstrap positions mastfoot...it gets tiring.
Id look at the bic technofoil 130 which is shorter and should be a reasonable wide slalom board as well for 1 board solution....and not too pricey.

Why not get the board the foils were developed and tested with?

For a one board quiver if you want to fin mostly, it looks good. Learning to foil it will probably be fine I reckon. Eventually a dedicated windfoil board is prob best, but many are getting a hybrid wing/wind foil board now days.
