Hey, thanks for noticing my video. A lot of time has passed since that session, and I’d like to share one of the biggest things I’ve learned since then.
For wave riding, I now take my back foot out of the rear strap and place it closer to my front foot. Having a narrower stance over the foil gives me much better balance and makes the board feel far more controlled in the waves.
When I want to jump or go fast, I put both feet back in the straps, of course.
This is how I ride now.

Yes! And, I like your YouTube comment of "Windfoiling is the art of looking either incredibly cool or completely ridiculous, with very little in between."...

I'm glad I've kept practicing as the kit feels so comfortable now.

Great videos keep them coming. I also love the way you talk about the day.
I ride strapless in the waves as I find it easier for me to move around the board. And have actually started moving my back foot slightly across the board depending on whether I am carving heel side or toe side.
I believe you can do more advanced manoeuvres with straps but I am not attempting anything too advanced.

I've compromised, I have front foot straps and one half foot strap at the back. I like the security of the front foot straps and the freedom to move my back foot around when wave riding with the half strap.

What size board, sail & foil is that?

Hi. The setup for that day:
Severne Predator 110
Sabfoil BALZ PRO set
Front wing 969
Flat stab 370
Mast 83 cm
Fuselage 90 cm
Severne FoilFreek 4.4
Severne Enigma 140–190 cm
Severne Blue 400
RDM Severne Cyclops Carbon 24 cm
Severne Harness Lines 32"

I have the BALZ PRO 969, 909, and 808, and I love them all.
The 969 is great in lighter winds and has a nice glide in slower waves.
The 909 is faster and better for jumping.
I’ve been struggling with backloops (the real backloop, not the freestyle backloops you can do on flat water—the one where you go straight up, pause, rotate, and then come straight down) with both the 969 and the 909.
Recently, I started using the 808 together with my 3.3 sail, and that has been a game changer. Now we’re talking about proper jumping and fast wave riding. I’m making great progress with the 808, and it feels like it’s only a matter of time before real backloops are in the bag.

The predator 110 is to big in waves. To long, to much volume. I have the Predator 95 incoming (shipping from Asia). That will also help in backloops and waveriding.

Hi Gurra,
Loving the videos, I can't believe how much sailing you get in Sweden.....you seem to be out every other day!

Thanks, Roy. Really appreciate it. I agree, there’s a lot of sailing, but it’s not the spot, it’s the sport.
Windfoiling is the key to a happy life 😀
It opens up so many more fun days on the water. Looking back, buying windfoiling gear a year ago was one of the best decisions of my life.

Thanks. It seems like a short time, but I have around 70 windfoil days since April 2025 and I've been wave windsurfing in Varberg, Sweden, since 2006. So the step to windfoiling was pretty easy for me. But I understand why people struggle. The balance, timing and gear can be difficult ( if you even find something to buy nowadays). No wonder many choose the easier path and go wingfoiling instead. I'm not a quitter though. Windfoiling is a hidden gem, an unpolished diamond. We just need to keep exploring the possibilities together and inspire each other.

This is what inspired me.

One of my favorites! I love the lack of editing; you get to see the water starts and basic sailing skills that I need to improve. It fascinating to watch how he links everything together on the fly!

I hear you. My latest video is about as raw as it gets: 2.5 minutes of racing slalom and wave guys with no edits, no cuts, and no hiding. After that, I’m afraid you’ll have to tolerate some edited footage from my latest session 😄

Enjoyed it all. You were holding your own with the slalom guy! You were gaining whenever he could not keep it on the water, that so interesting. The upwind 360s are getting there! I could watch ya reach for back loops all day and the wave riding at your local looks epic!
Are you gps enabled? I would be curious to know what your top speeds are on the 3 different foils you ride.
