G'day people. Im writing from Kalgoorlie(landsailing Mecca). Im helping some beginners build some new yachts and we're searching for for someold masts and sails to recut down to 4m. just about anything will do. Iwould like to find something with a bit of carbonfibre for myself. looking in Perth ,Mandurah at this stage as I am coming down in a few weeksfor a wedding.
Winds up!

Well if you're coming to Mandurah, you could drop into Avalon Sail Co.
They're a bit involved with blowcarts and may be able to help.
I've got an some old fiberglass masts, but not sure what they're worth, a couple not much at all.

I will endeavourto getsome nice ones onto this site but my 10yer old needs to help me. we just got flooded off the lake after 3 yers of perfect salt, and when the sailings good the cameras dont really get out of your bag. I should chat to Bugsy at avalon but the home designed yachts tend to go a bit fasterthan blokarts.
we had a mini 3 weeks ago clocked avof 110kms over 215 metres on his GPS.mast was 10%carbon, very stiff by landyacht standards.sail was recut from a 30year old landyacht sail(4.3m) made at Huxford sail loft in fremantle.

That's not slow, they only claim 90kms for blowkarts, guess there's some price to pay for being able to pack it away in a suitcase. Little wheels for one.
Are your masts stayed???? Doesn't look like it from your photos.

Tried one on on the salt lake behind Warnbro over summer and was very impressed by the acceleration when you sheet in, everyone should try it . They're a friendly bunch who sail from december to march on weekends who seem happy to give you a go.

That little pink critter will pull 85kmph and gibe.new yachts will do same but should go faster due to relocating body mass centre. Blokarts are too far forward and too upright to really fly.Masts on the smaller mini(4m),blocart,class5(5.5m)yachts are usually unstayed. When you add a solid wing mast the forces on the yacht increase very quickly. I have a kids yacht with a 150mm alloy wing mast and 3.5 m sail(4.2MTOTAL) which sails abouT 20%faster than a class5 in most winds. Its best speed yet is a av of 96kmph over 3 kms.. My own speed beast is a 20'streamliner which needs 20knts before you wriggle into the 4 point harness and go play. It has a 4m symetrical solid wing on massive stainless wire. It is a bit tricky to sail up to 110kmph.at that speed you need to be sure that you are at one end of the lakeand going back.the longest straight line run you can do on our lake is25km.which I managed in 13 minutes. GPS batteries went flat halfway after winding up to 154kmph.
Never got athe right lake, wind, direction, backup conditions since. But we keep trying every spring when the big westerlies arrive

Sounds pretty exciting...
What safety equipment do you wear?

in summer, its t shirts and japanese safety sandals, bike helmet and sunnies, winter, same with a windcheater. I m one of the few that wear a open face MC helmet in the small yachts, and always a good full face MC helmet in the big yacht. when you turn your head sideways in the big yacht the wind tries to rip your head off.
a good seat belt is fitted to every yacht Ive built. In europe they do not allow belts for racing as people have ditched into the sea and drowned.

that mast looks to have a repair about 2 metres up. frieght to perth wouldnt be to bad but the perth to kalgoorlie leg is usually2.5 times the perth-sydney leg, plus all the phonecalls. Thanks for thinking of me.
