I've noticed new boards quote litres, as in a 120 litre board usually has a "120" emblazoned across it somewhere.

Older boards use something else. For example my 2002 RRD Fireball has "71" across the pads but I can't see the relation between 71 and any other measurement for the board (http://www.windance.com/info_source/assistant/gear_selector/boards/light_airmulti.asp#fire_71)

71 whats? At first I though inches but that'd make my board about 6 foot long.

P.S. I'm sure it's something obvious and I'm going to go "D'oh!"

Nah, it's 60cm

1971 was a great year and they want you to know it.

By coincidence 1971 was the year my wife and I were born. Our parents may believe 1970 was a better year. They are sadly mistaken.

In RRD's of that age it is the length.... at least in the waveboards... eg: "CultFifty" is a wave cult, 250cm.

Yeah, that was my first thought until I looked at the URL and saw there was no correlation between the Fireball 79 and it's length and so on..
