im a long way off, but i wanna start doing some research for a 75litre wave board, i have thee 100, 85 and 69ltre boards, and im thinking that 75 would cover it quite nicely, so i wanna start some research for what to look out for, models, years, etc etc. i want a nice strong one because it will probably end up being my main board,

I just got my 2008 fanatic new wave 75 a few weeks ago..
had one sail, was about 30knots cross off mast high and the board was amazing!
felt very confident on the wave and not too fast!
will let you know more when i get more sailing on it if you want!

Depends what ur into I rekon... Havent tried the evo- type boards in decent waves so I cant tell but they are surely sweet as far as turns are concerned.. If you prefer more speed on the waves and for jumps go for a classic shape (having said that Boujmaa was still doing his push-front on an evo!!).
I currently have a RRD waveone and love it (84l but), and used to have an F2 maui project 8'2" (about 75l), these boards were developped by levi siver, kevin ponichtera and andy wolf, awesome boards.. The smaller starboard acids have also been developped by siver since he left F2, they're awesome boards too.
If you want a real loose waveboard go for the RRD MPE wave millenium edition, theres a couple at 2nd wind I think. Not quite new but they're strong boards!!
A mate had a quatro slash and burn too which was really nice (quatro's 1st production series), fast and with crazy grip in the turns, really liked it.. but they're notoriously good anyway..

Yeh the twinsers look like they will bring yet another category among the waveboards, cant wait to try!!

Hope that helps.

yeah the quatro twins look good. i'm pretty keen to a 76 for days when it's a light wind but a big swell. something floaty but the twin fin should help pull the rail in a bit more so it may be like sailing a smaller board. i imagine.

i'm supper keen to try one.

maybe someone would like to lend me one to use in the up coming Nomadic event in november??

Go the Evo and you then will realise that you have been blinded by the American crap
Once you ride the Evo you will want a quiver of them

If you want to save money try taping three 2liter milk cartons to your Goya (69+2+2+2), simple!

I'd be curious to here some thoughts on people who have tried twins. I'm shaping a sinker at the moment and tossing up which way to go. Got an 85 liter twin witch I highly rate, good luck with yours.

hi greenroom ;

EVOs are really good boards, and I can understand that you love yours, but all the shapers from all the brands are doing a really good job, we all are diferent in our wavesailing style, size, weight...When a rider doesn't like a board it's not because it's crap, it's because that board doesn't fit to him

regarding the "american" crap, most of the guys working with Goya international (Francisco Goya, Argentina) and Quatro international (Keith Teboul, Madagascar) are not americans, they moved to Hawaii because they love windsurfing and I can't see anything wrong for brands specialised in waveboards to have office and workshops 5mn drive from Hookipa

Thats why you get boards that are shaped and or tested here in the West...
I just used that term American crap because all the stuff coming from Hawaii really has no place here. Why make and test a board at Hookipa and then sell it here in Perth?
I agree with what your saying about each board is different for each person. I just am an Evo fan and believe that Scotty has put alot of time and effort into this board which he uses on our coast here. Am I right in saying this?

They also work great on the east coast. Best shortboard I have ever owned. The evo is the allrounder that will work in the overwhelming majority of wind and wave conditions. Dont be a hater just try one.

wow one of the most opinionated threads i have seen yet.
Try as many boards as you can. They are all good! Even though I am pushing Tabou I think there are lots of very good ideas in most of the boards. The Evo is not the only one!!

Jordo

If u want a full on DTL waveboard for Gnaraloo, Margies and Esperance etc, a 2000 - 2002 Sonic 255 (73L).... the yellow one. Strongest most full on double sandwich I ever used and rides great. I wish I never traded mine (silly silly me)

For Perth and a bit of DTL and a bit of cross on like Dutchies or Scarbs etc, an EVO. I used an EVO 92 and 80 in DTL for the last 4 yrs so don't be put off by h8trs who say they are only for Euro onshore mush

Happy to hear that you love Scott's job as much as we do.. believe me. I'm repling to your unjustified comments...re: That our boards are'n suited to Aust conditions...We spend last few years working with Quatro and Goya to make those babes rip in our conditions (they already rip everywere else). How? Constantly collecting and responding to feedback from teamriders and customers.Next time you go sailing I suggest that you should check out how many of those boards are in the water and who is riding them. Ask them for their opinion. You will realise that are more Australian than what you believe. We still hold an Australian wave title with them... not too bad for something that you mentioned NOT to be made for this place.
BTW at the end of September, Pascal Bronnimann from Quatro International, (probably some of you already know him from hanging around Margi couple of season ago) will be here joining us for some testing in Gnaraloo. It's a great chance to meet him and ask some question about the boards.
Best wind & waves to all.
Alberto

I've got a lot of respect for Scotty, his job, and starboard in general,

but believe me, I've been riding many boards, many years and in many diferent locations,
and if Goya or Quatro boards weren't what I believe to be the best for wavesailing in Perth and WA, I wouldn't waste time and energy riding them

Said that, I respect everybody's choice regarding boards models and brands, and I believe that whatever we ride, if we have fun, it's ok ;

I'm going surfing,

eric

It seems now from reading different threads around the place that most boards seem to be fairly good at what they are designed for. In the past it may have been easier to find duds but as technology has improved it seems that most boards are fairly good quality, and theres huge amount of brands now.

From what I have read Naish / Tabou didn't have the super reviews in the past but now they seem to get quite alot of good feedback (nothing against the brands but I had to use an example that I've read stuff about!). Brands like Quatro/Goya/Tabour I hadn't heard much about 3-4 yrs ago but now they seem to be quite high profile high quality, is this just a case of technology improving and the market is easier to break into cost/production wise?

What was starboard reviews/quality like early on? It seems about 4 yrs ago there was a flood of starboards onto the market ... and they seemed to be quite cheap (price wise) and especially on the second hand market, seemed like everyone had one (could be something to do with a large number of shops carrying them). Anyone else notice this trend? I wonder if it was a strategic decission because now looking at their prices they have increased a fair bit in comparison to other brands that may already have been a but more pricey.

Did I just write a bit too much? I think it still flows with the thread :p

As soon as I posted that I wondered how long it was going to take you Alberto to reply
I didnt really put much thought in my post as Im in an internet cafe and have limited time
I didnt mean it the way it came out but just like you I have my board. If there was a thread that had doubts about the Starboard (which I doubt) Im sure Jez or Paul would have been onto it like you. After all thats you job and thats what you sell. Sorry I mean no harm. As said I think all boards today are of a high standard and for someone of my skill and level Im sure I wouldnt notice much difference at all. But like most people who stick by their chosen brands and shop and I am still very open minded I have chosen to stick by my chosen board and sail which is the EVO and TUSHIE ROCKS which I can buy at 2NDWIND!
Thanks
