Does anyone know of any 8.0m ish freerace/slalom sails that rig ok on a 460 mast ?
Quick scan through some of the manufactures web sites seems that 7.5 was about the largest.

I have an 07 8.2 Redline, that would just fit on a 460.

depends on your extension I guess. I have a 8.1 NS and it needs a 490 and about 20cm of ext. So I guess if you went down to a 460 you would need a 50+ extension which I think 45 is about the most? All you have to do is check the max luff measurment and take of the 460 for the mast to work out how much ext you will need.

thanks everyone
I will probably just get the biggest sail that I can use a 460 mast and a max. of 45cm extension in and get a 490 when the toy budget allows
(easier to get it past the missus in two smaller purchases as well)

I think Russell had some 490's but he is oversea's for a long time now. It looks like there will always be a need for a 490 if you want a sail over 8m, Mr K.

Azz - you may be right, I think I will buy a 490
(however, I suspect that if I ate a little bit less I might be able plane just as early on a 8.0 on my 460 as I would on a 8.5/490)
Do cambered sails plane earlier than non-cambered sails ?

Hi Mr K.
You might like to look at the Tushingham 7.8 Lightning.
It's always around the top in tests, rigs on a 460 with 27cm ext and has a remarkably wide wind range.
Performance, price & quality are all excellent!
Give me a ring/mail at 2ndWind.
Regards.

Hi Mr K, What are the weights of the Fiberspar masts that you have found. Fiberspar was once the best brand to get. I suppose they are still ok. I have a mate named Sick Stu, he still uses them I think. I'll ask the sick'o.
