Having trawled google i figured here was the next natural step.

Im heading to africa next friday for 6 weeks. Travelling around South Africa, Mozambique, Mauritius and other various places.

Mauritius seems straight forward, club mistral only real option they seem to have a good setup, anyone been?

but south africa seems a little wider variety. i guess capetown is the only real place to hire gear. anyone been? got any beta for me?

much appreciated people.

The main international airport is on the island of Sal. The Angulo center is about 10 minutes away. On Sao Vicente you should also be able to hire some gear in Mindello. There is a great speed strip on the south end of the island at the end of the runway and great wavesailing on the north coast. Boa Vista is the other island with great sailing, I believe one of the resort hotels may rent gear.

The best rentals in Cape Town are Baysports. They do gear at a reasonable price. If you can take your gear that is better. As for locations: Sunset beach, Big bay, Witsand etc offer wicked wave sailing. The are a few esturies which offer good freestyle and if you want a change langebaan lagoon is only about 2hours away from Cape Town and is an epic freestyle spot. It is a perfect trip and I would recommend you spend as much time in Cape Town as possible.....

You'll miss the windy season in Capetown, but plenty of wind up the SE east coast, ie Around Durban. Also the water temp in CT is about 16-17 degrees, so you need a wetsuit - whereas Durban will be in the 20's.
CT is the best place to hire gear ..... perhaps if you are doing a round trip you can return the gear.

Carbo Verde is good for wind. But nothing else. Its very remote and nothing to see.

Mauritius will probably be your best bet for wind,
I would recommend a trip to the Kruger park.... dont miss that.

They have been having some great conditions for this time of year in CT though. Spoke to a mate the other day who said regular mast high waves and wind....

Mauritius will be your best bet for this time of year.. wind will be lighter than at sum times during the year but the swell should be cranking.
Club Mistral set up is pretty awesome. Right on the beach and has everything covered from flat water and waves.
The only problem you might experience is that you will not be able to sail Manawa when it gets big and sailing One Eyes is a definte NO NO on club mistral gear.

I have met a couple of Aussies that go to Le Morne in Mauritius quite regularly

Koosie, you need to be careful in Mauritius. you might bump into a weirdo who goes by the name Kremlin. He puts on an accent that's even gayer than yours.

And I was starting to suspect that you, Boris, were in fact the "not heard of for a while" Kremlin.

I think from the US (e.g. Boston) is easiest. Cabo Verde airlines...

BTW, it's totally on the other side of Africa from cape town and mauritius, it's closer to south america or europe than either of those!
