Starboard's slalom boards are top class from first hand accounts and magazine reviews so why do you have this fear? Perhaps one room or team isn't big enough for Dunkerbeck and Albeau.

Leave JP to the proven experts ....... Micah, just look what he did for Drops Sailboards. JP Slalom Pros are faster than Starboard iSonics so dont mess with them. Its not Micahs fault that some idot broke his leg while he was leading the PWA series.
I would get one if they were faster.

Thats a big call against the most proven slalom boards on the planet. I'd be more worried about Starboards changing to suit Bjorn but hey boards are not made on just one sailors preference.

I heard on the grape vine the new Slalom V JP boards are "Very, very fast".
They look really nice and are featherweight little units.

AA had absolutly nothing to do with these new boards. He has been riding Micahs' boards in Maui. They are fast thats why he is joining JP in Feb 2009 he hasnt had any input with these boards.

The slalom V is fast like IV but is easier to sail and live with over longer distances - this is after only 1 sail of the Slalom V 60. I think they have changed the hull to wood only instead of the full carbon so it seems less tinny in chop. Will write a full review when I have had more time on it. As far as Antoine goes, I dont think he will be going any slower! Go Micah and Swifty also!

I think we'll let the results speak for themselves, anything else is BS and banter .

The Starboard camp definitely has the results on the board. But I'll be keen to see how the new JP Slalom V performs.

I don't know about you guys, but if I find I don't like a board after AA has been playing with the design, I'm inclined to think the problem is with my technique and not his design changes...

You reckon results will speak volumes for a board . Antoine trains as hard, put him on any decent board and I don't think he'll lose- if he does that is different then maybe the board is not worth considering.

Hmm looking at the PWA manufacturers results for 08 where are these rocketships? [}:)]

AA is 185 cm and 95 kg. Boards that work for him and his level of strength and fitness are very unlikely to be optimised for me @ 177cm and 75kg, old and unfit.

However, by some happy curcumstance, my iS87 and iS 111 are by far the fastest slalom boards I have ever had. Maybe the guys at Starboard actually design boards with a whole range of rider weights in mind? Never ridden a JP so I can't compare.........

Why do you think he left Starboard to go to JP. I will say it again he has been using Micahs' JP boards in Maui and he reckons they are fast, this is why he left Starboard. why dont you ask him.... I did !!! I dont mind that he is joining JP I just dont want him to change the boards.

but whats his word? Cuz they are fast?

I'm not disputing that they are fast I am disputing outlandish claims that they are faster than the others.

What do you think he's going to say after moving to JP, he's going to say exactly what the PR team have instructed him to say.

By the time the rumours of a move are on the street he's well and truly in the camp and had mandatory doses of JP tonic!

Spot on WFTW.
And he left one company to go to another - Why? - Easy - because they offered him more money! ......and he's not the only one!

W4W and Dave have it sussed. The big brands are always going to try and gazump each other.
AA was with AHD for years. Micah was with Mistral same. KP was with Bic same.
Bjorn was with F2 even longer.
So they start playing musical sponsors. they start by seeing who wants them for big dollars and then use that to announce that they are going to that sponsor to be the "main" guy to develop the boards.
Why do you think KP was not happy that he did all the development on the iSonics and suddenly Bjorn is the big new player??
And why did AA go to JP when Micah is there and has made major inroads on the JP slalom boards being there??
Ive got NFI
Someone told me this, no really!!

At the end of the day you have to be happy with what you are sailing and not just following some big name sailor from brand to brand like a Zombie clutching at straws.
I have had plenty of different board brands and have found a design that suits my size and style. I have friends who are also happy with their new (different) board brands and I am not out to win them over because my chosen brand may not be for them.
These days every second sailor is an ambassador or team rider and it is hard to know what to believe, so ask for a sail and see if the gear feels right and make your own evaluation then you dont have to worry about what pro is on what and how much they are paid

I guess this gets us back to the well worn point that all of the top brand boards are pretty much as fast as each other in their optimum conditions. As someone wise (Elmo?) very astutely pointed out in another thread (that seems to have vanished ?), the slowest part of our kit is the bit between the boom and the footstraps!

Kimba, keen to hear you're report. I was contemplating the new Slalom V but couldn't wait (I'm an impatient bugger once I make the decision to buy).

I wasn't very impressed with the early version of the JP Slalom (I thought my JP Super X was faster) but the recent models have picked up the game.

I've had a number of JP boards and still do have a couple. I'm always happy to give an unbiased opinion on my gear and really appreciate and value feedback from others that can do the same. So I'm very keen to hear how the V goes as my 90L Slalom is showing signs of wear.
