The other day I came in from a really good sail and thought I'd have a beer to celebrate. Only problem was the beers I had were not screw tops but required a bottle opener. Normally have one on my car keys but this time my missus had dropped me off and I only had my trailer and all my kit. I thought there must be a way, as it turns out the metal end on one of my tie down straps was the perfect size and worked an absolute treat, as my panic subsided I thought is there any part of my kit that can be used for another purpose. Anyone else used any part of their gear for a purpose it was never intended.

Amazing what you can think up when there is beer involved.

If you were a hard core man you would have smashed the neck off with a rock then strained the glass bits out through your teeth as you drank it.

.....uummmmmmm......can I borrow your tie own strap.

I'll have to look out for a pair, only an aussie would think of something like that. I can't understand why car manufacturers don't install one in the dashboard of all new cars. Maybe I need to mount a bottle opener on my trailer - now there's an idea.

I used the top half of 460 mast to prop up gyprock to the ceiling when I did some renovating.

Beer was involved afterwards

An L series Subaru wagon, circa 92 is also a very good bottle opener, just open the driver door and use the latch on the door frame.....Subbies are great

Yeah all my gear lives in my van solely to keep some extra weight over the back wheels which helps going around corners in the wet. That's about all it's done lately.

Oh yeah, and my downhaul tool also serves as a wheel brace.
