It is time to step up and have your say demand some action. The Fisheries Minister is asking for people to comment on the shark net, no shark net issue.

It is an on line questionnaire.

Shark nets are a ridiculous waste of time and money.

The sharks can swim under and around them, and the nets catch more non shark sea life than anything else. We have had nets on the Goldy for years and we still get the odd attack, and certainly still see a reasonable number of sharks in the water off the beaches.

If you don't like the sharks, simple, don't swim in their ocean.

The majority of shark attacks are well away from Perth swimming beaches, and the remainder (near popular beaches) are not on swimmers, rather on water craft users like surf skis etc.

So how the hell is a net around Cott or Scarbs gonna solve anything????

As usual they ask for feedback but it is only on the 1 or 2 options, not the other 5 options. They already know what they are going to do, public feedback means nothing but to make the population feel like they were consulted. Shark nets around the two main beaches will happen, and achieve nothing but procuring votes from retards who think the Govt is good cos they "did something"

The solution is simple, allow some massive fishing ships to rip out tonnes of fish from the food chain. Sure there may be a period when when some people get used as a alternative food source, but after awhile the sharks numbers will have to decrease.

Depleat their natural food source so then the sharks will start hunting humans. Nice one:S

Unfortunately for mankind is that we tend to look at modifying the affect rather than fixing the cause.
Now by this I'm not saying lets go and hunt down every shark but I believe that we have shown the top level predator that we are nothing to be feared and that we taste pretty good too.
We should be looking at what has now made us more "appealing" to the predators of the deep.
I to believe sharks to be smart as Col suggested, you do not get to the top of the food chain and stay there for an extremely long time without some sort of intelligence.

Years ago sharks generally stayed away from us as we caused them harm more often than not, this simply is not the case anymore.
If you look at natural animal behaviour if we chased it with sticks and spears it would stay away because of a natural fear reaction. If we casually were among them and encouraged them what would they fear? they would react in their normal natural way.
I do not support any commercial venture that encourages encounters with sharks as this demonstrates to the creature that we are of no threat.

Changing a natural reaction takes many years, the dog is our truly domesticated beast but they still revert back to basic instincts at times if not trained and handled properly.
Other options are out there than nets. I use a shark shield while diving and I swear by it. Will this keep me totally safe? who knows but I see it a bit like wearing a seatbelt in a car. If something happens you have more of a chance, it does not mean 100% cover.

Stop the interaction, modify some existing technology and work towards solutions and not just band aids.

Just keep eating fish and chips ( I believe most of the cheap fish is shark).

Our GWS display no signs of fear. They have recently progressed from biting outboard engines to ripping them off the back of the boat.

It seems so that the euro wavespots are better than the oz ones. ;)
