I know its still warm and most of you aren't thinking about wetsuits just yet.

But I was looking at my steamer hanging in the shed on the weekend and was reminded that last year, while blasting along, I would constantly get water streaming straight UP the leg of my wetsuit, resulting in a massive balloon of water on my front leg.

Does anyone else suffer from this, and what do you do to stop it? I dont want to be hampered by this extra weight (fat enough already) this winter.

i saw a "windsurfing" wetsuit that had velcro straps around the ankles to stop this sort of thing. can't remember who made it.

yep same problem last winter with a brand new Oneil wetsuit.

I simply wrapped a piece of insulating tape around the bottom of each leg, did the trick.

Leech that was a NP wet suit. Had one but a slight expansion to my midriff resulted in it getting the heave ho

Grumps, may need to go spring suit like me, or go the tape on the legs as MD74 does.

You could get a wetsuit you like and take it into Westsuits in O'connor and get them to modify it by attaching some velcro tabs to the base of the legs.

So I suppose you wouldn't want to piss in your wetsuit anymore if the ankles are taped shut. Balloon legs from the top down instead?

But yeah, Grumps, I have the same problem and have thought of the same solution, but never tried it.

Yeah it happens to me all the time too. Lovely comfy wetsuit but big balloons of water. From the outside in.

Had thought of cable ties, but given the above that could put you in nasty predicament

Which reminds me, you can get velcro cable ties for holding large looms of wires together .... hhmmmmmmmm, must check the server room

the advantage of tape is it does offer a bit of elasticity, so you can fill your wettie from the top and drain via the leg by finger insertion for any body fluid flushing requirements.

Ive got a sealed steamer, so you do need to carry out the fluch from the neck down system!

Greenleader did mention to me about a guy that had a fly sewn into the front of his steamer!

The best idea is to stop exersizing, start drinking heaps of beer, and save for a bigger sail for all the blubber your going to put on.

Works for the whales doesnt it?

YES!I think you have to be motoring for that to happen. I see on some speed videos they use duct tape.Yes winters on its way but i probably will not need a wetty unti; July/Aug.

I pull my booties up over the outside of the legs. And my booties have velcro ties to tighten them up. When I used to surf, I had to do the opposite when to stop the booties ballooning when duck diving under waves.

I had the same problem. I punched holes in the back with a paper punch to let the water out. Works fine.

Got my first sealed wetsuit last winter. So much warmer !!! But also suffered from balloon legs. Velcro strap from old leg rope works well.

I always got frustrated with this effect, but handy when finishing a session to wash sand off feet.

Got a Mystic steamer. End of Problem.
the rear calf area of the suit has a porous panel the lets out water.

Just tooooooo simple for the rest to think of.
