I am just completing a stage 1 training course (so 6 hours of falling in).

Can someone help me with some recommendations for gear that I am likely to be able to get secondhand for about $500?

Thanks

Brian

Hi there Brian,
i take it that you have been using wide boards for your lessons(eg Start boards/ Cruisers etc) .
Unfortunalty ,for $500 you are not going to get much .You can pick up plenty of old boards from the quokka, but a half decent rig alone is going to cost you over your budget. Best bet is go around all the shops(windsurfing Perth and 2nd Wind are best for second hand) and see what you can find.At least you will get an idea of the market value of different equipment.
If you need any more advice drop me a line.

Regards

Simon

Brian,

You may want to consider joining the UWA outdoor club. They have a variety of windsurfing gear ranging from beginner rigs to wave gear. Membership is about $50/year and there might be a small nominal fee for using the gear (say a few $). Initially you will only be able to windsurfing with one of the club instructors to ensure you wont hurt yourself or the gear. For this reason access to the gear initally depends on the avalibilty of instructors but once the club is satisified you are not going to break thier gear...go for it. I learnt to windsurfing with the outdoor club and it is by far the cheapest way to get into windsurfing (and kayaking and rock climbing). see www.outdoorclub.com.au/ for more info.

Cheers

for $500 you could get kit that might keep you happy but I recommend hiring and doing lessons (with me of course!) to get your skills and knowledge up to the stage where you are excited enough to want to invest a wee bit more and get the use out of it.
We offer good packages and excellent equipment.

come and see me at Pelican Point Windsurfing
