I have been thinking of getting a board for the rest of the family to play on, and me to use on light days. I see there is an oldish Formula board for sale in the forum.

It has the volume to float beginners but what do you all think it would be like for a beginner to use - would it be to "wobbly" ?

i reckon it would be very good, we have a starboard go 180 ltr and everyong one who has wanted to have a play has been able to manage alright, and the formula board is wider than that.

A formula board would be ok for beginners but really too fragile. You'd have to pad the mast properly wherever it could hit the hull when you drop it. You'd have to get a shallow fin for it too. Formula boards typically come with 70 cm fins. Thats too deep for beginners. There are some pretty good fins for that purpose around.

i never thought of that notwal, if you can fin a big fat and wide board with foam over it it will make it alot easier on thier feet and on thier board, the starboard go's are really good for that, adn thier fins ar like 30cms long so it would be perfect for beginers who dont like goin out to deap. (luckey bay is good for that)
