So I've picked up an old (c'02) Starboard 186 (formula) and I'm really keen for some wind and some time! It hasn't been used in years and when I wipe my hand on the bottom i get that white chalky residue. Now I know from the good old garden furniture (we've all had it at some point im sure:P) that this means it will be more brittle and is just the plastic getting older.
My question is this; should I wax it or something? how make this last as long as i can? anyone have any board-lasting tips?

Thanks all!

It has not weakened at all, that is just oxidized paint. Not the same construction as garden furniture
Give it a rub all over with about 600grade wet, or a slighly abrasive cleaner like Jif on a cloth (wet board first) or use a fine automotive cut polish

Sailing it should wash any residue off, this is my suggestion. ^_^

BonJuan,

It didn't occur to me to point out its problems before as I was thinking ab-initio training only.

If you want to extend the life a little there is a small ding between the two right hand footstraps that could do with some attention.

And thanks DVDA; that's all i was thinking to begin with, but its just so fun looking! cheers.

I'll give it a light wash in the water when I take it out and we'll see how it all goes cjw
