Has anyone ridden the RRD Wave Cults or Excocet Universal Waves?? What are these like if anyone has had experience with them?
Cheers

I have tied an exocet wave board and found it mellow and stable, bordering on boring

flatus :

A reflex that expels intestinal gas through the anus [syn: fart, farting, wind, breaking wind]

[L., fr. flare to blow.] 1. A breath; a puff of wind. --Clarke.

2. Wind or gas generated in the stomach or other cavities of the body. --Quincy.

I actally own a universal wave(88), and find it an exellent board to ride. It is as the previose reply sort of says "easy" to ride. Infact probally the easiest riding board I have ever used. the caracteristics of the board dont change wether 15knts with a 5.7m just planing(I weigh 95kg), or 25-30knts powered with a 4.5m. It always stays very controlled. Probably may feel quite slow to most first time riders of the board, but this is probably due to the super soft ride. You get an indication of its speed when you find yourself overtaking other riders that are usally quite quick on the water themself. I totally love the board as it has made my sailing improve dramatically with having the trimming of the board taken compleatly out of my mind, so all i have to think about is wheres the next jump to have. It planes very early and goes through lulls well. It also doesn't require a very big sail or a lot of power to get it going.
hope these comment help!!

Thanks guys, I have a Maui Proj Style M atm 95L, i weigh 60Kg, still do mainly river sailing my want to push into the ocean and waves asap so i want to get a wave board that still can get me planing in the river. Ill be going RRD Excocet or Angulo (thats what more local store packs) what volumes u guys think i can aim at ..... i was thinking about 85L but not sure how well the new boards get planing nowdays, also i only have a 5.2m sail for the time being.

Nemore feedback on the boards would be great
Cheers
Troy.

I think you should be aiming a little smaller than that if your planning on getting into waves. Just as long as your getting your jibes and waterstarts okay i would go for something around 75 litres max as bigger boards are much harder to turn on the wave in my experience. When i started learning to wavesail i was about 65 kilos and used a 72 litre board. You need the extra stability of more volume to get you out the back and keep upwind at first but as you get better and ride faster waves you'll want something smaller and more manouverable. But if you just want to cruise rather than waveride something like 85 litres might better suit you.

Waterstarts are no probs for me, Jibes arnt perfect yet but they are getting there ... just need more time on water for them, been trying a few one handed gybes and prolly start trying out duck gybes as soon as i get some wind. In the river i like to try a bit of hopping and maybe so me free style stuff soon so i like a bit more than cruising :)

Before you buy new, why not look for a 2nd hand board to start with until you work out the right size for you. I would suggest around 80 litres if its for the river to help with gusty patchy winds. Check out all the shops, but we currently have over 20 wave boards 5 years old or less from $650 at 2ndwind sailboards.

Finding the right size wave board is always difficult, but you need to have the right gap from your other board without going too small.

THanks Paul,

I have a 2001 board atm so dont want to "downgrade" ... I dont mind spending the moeny for a new model ... ill sell my old so it shouldnt be that bad to change over, for the time being ill look at a bigger wave board i think so i can still get some river use and get out and learn in the waves ... when it comes times ill just change over again ... works out fairly economical especially if ya love the sport :)

Maui Project Style M 95L, 255cm/58cm 2001 model /w fin.

This board is in top condition, hardly used for the first 2 seasons and used semi-reguarly last season. Planes easily, gybes smoothly and has good speed. In very good condition. Reviews also state its an effective board for wave and freestyle.

$1200.

I'll take pics soon for anyone who is interested.
Any queries feel free to email me [email protected].

if you are looking at the exocet range, I would go with the universal wave 78. as i posted earlier, I have the 88 and it gets me going well at 95kg. they seem to feel like they have more planing power and here vol would sugest. perhaps it because of there wider than normal max width. it would do the job. With the angulo range, be carefull also not to go to big as aparently the 85ltr wave board carrys more vol than stated. look at the 75ltr. dont know much about rrd, but know someone who has the 77freestyle wave and sounds like it would be the best in the range for waveriding/blasting and geting planing early. only thig about them is that they are very light and I havn't herd to many raving reports in the past about there strength, but you wouldn't be heavy enough to do to much damage( unless you land it flat from a great height!!!!).
on a compleatly different note, I know someone who has a second hand wave board for sale. Its a Drops 8'5 79lt. very nice waveboard indeed. I dont think that you would here anybody say a bad thing about them, apart from thay are hard to find. Its in imaculate condition and hasn't been trashed in the surf. I know that you say you dont want old, but its definately worth a look. I think he wants a $1000 for it but mabey less. thats between him and the purchaser. if interested call Craig:0417 187 699.

Can Vouch for the MP Style M.
This board rocks.
Not sure why you would want to sell it though if your getting a 77ltr.
94 and 77 make a great two board quiver.
