I am thinking of going to Manly today looking for flat water for learning but I'm not sure if the launching spots are safe. I always thought there was alot of rocks in this area.

Any other suggestions for flat water in SSE near Bris City.

I was heading for the Broadwater for the weekend but now have restricted time.

Thanks

wear surf booties.(Manly) 1/2 tide you can stand , bout waist deep. Launch off beach at full to half tide. off rockwall steps any tide less than that.

Yeah you should have a high tide around lunch time, so that will make Manly ok.

If you head there when the tides are low you really want to have mastered the art of carrying your board and sail at the same time as negotiating the steps on the rock wall (the last few are slippery without booties).

Thompson St, Victoria Point. Full down to half-tide. Sand bottom and can stand for a long way out. Long walk to or from the water if you there in the bottom half of the tide. Flattish water if the wind is light...exactly what a beginner needs.

100% agreement with Vic Pt, but MUST be in a S-SE wind, otherwise pretty tough with a land breeze. Otherwise in a N-NE try Point Haloran with sand bottom and reasonably shallow unless you go right out.

Hi mikey100,

Thanks for your advice I went to Vic Point yesterday and had a great time. It's a fantastic place in a SE as I could reach up and down the beach in waist deep water until the tide went out. It has also got good facilities and grassy picnic area.

There was a guy on the beach taking wind measurements and he said it was 12/13knts gusting to 19knts. I had a great time and had the board planing for the first time which was a blast. I only came in because I no longer had the strength left in my arms to hold the boom in.

Cheers.
