Just a quick one - one of my older fins that came with a second hand board has been repaired - the tab where the bolt goes through must have been snapped off and replaced with a metal equivalent (2 small bolts go through the side of the fin) hopefully this makes sense! When I hit a log the other day I snapped the tab off a nice new fin of mine and can't find a similar metal piece.
Does anyone know:
a. What I'm talking about b. Who stocks them/where can I get them?
Be wary of the metal tabs as the fins can de laminate around the metal where its filed down and snap off while landing a small jump way out of the coast - I am speaking from having the experience of snapping the fin clean off and it left the fibreglass and tab still in the box - was an old JP wave fin that I thought I had been smart and fixed when the screw hole split and broke.
Took about 10 months b4 it snapped and the remnants showed how the fibreglass had come apart in the layers near the metal attachment
Losing the fin wasn't a problem it was the the very long swim in as for the life of me I couldn't water start the slippery mother without a fin, I was waiting for Mr Snappy to remove a leg!
Should have tried the waist harness around the tail
Crash, if you havent gone to the effort of ordering that tab they are also available from sambo. he can get at least a few from windgenuity in syd. should work out a tad quicker. a
