Hi all

Looking to buy a sail for my newly aquired board, I don't need anything new and specky, I'm mainly worried about size and purpose.

I've only been windsurfing for a couple of months and won't be using the sail in the surf or for freestyle yet, but want to know what size is good for Perth winds. I'm around 185cm tall and weigh about 70kg, what is the minimum size that I should go?

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Just sent you an message.
PS you need to advise what size board you have to allow a clear picture on what you need.

Where you sail makes a big difference as well. On the river is different to Safety Bay for instance.

Thanks for the message mineral, my boards about 2 metres long, quite an old one, along the lines of 100litres.

Got an idea that I'll go for a 2nd hand 5.5, I'm mostly surfing at Pelican Point, but I've go an uncle with a conveniently placed home at safety bay that'll have to visit soon =D

Albino, yep reckon a 5.5 will suit just fine for Peli Point and S/Bay.
You may want to go up in size when winter hits if you want to keep going, winds are soft as most times, except when the storm fronts come in. then you may need to be down in the 4.5 range, or flatten out your 5.5 with bulk downhaul.

Do yourself a favour don't buy anything to old, the newer sails are alot more user freindly when rigged correctly, they twist of at the head of the sail and are easier to handle over powered, plus masts have got shorter so if you pick up an old 5.5 it may rig on a 460,then if you have to up grade u might have to upgrade your mast as well because the new sail will rig on a 430 or even 400.
Just a couple of points 2 consider, hope it helps.

I reckon a 5.5 to 5.7 would be a good allround sail size for your weight.
I like Ezzy sails because I have found them to be well made and can take a bashing.
A wave sail or a freestyle sail is a good bet since they are easy to handle and dont have cams which can be a pain in the arse.

You are better off getting a nice newish sail and then getting a mast to fit rather than the other way around.

Have you tried the windsurf schools? They let you try b4 you buy!
