Hi,

My friend and I are flying to Perth the 10th of October and spending about half a year in Australia. Since it turned out to be too expensive to take windsurfing gear on the plane, we are going to have to buy two complete rigs when we arrive! One of us is a beginner and the other has just learned how to water start. (We are also planning to buy one "ordinary" surf board each)

We are now wondering where the best place is to go? We are planning to buy most of the gear 2:nd hand. Are there any good shops for this? Which shops do you recommend? Maybe it's cheaper to buy stuff outside Perth? And about how much does a complete rig cost?

We are also planning to buy a camper van when we arrive. Where do we look to find second hand cars in Perth?

Thanks in advance!

There are a number of shops in perth and all of them carry second-hand stock. It comes down to brands really.

Surf Sail Australia carries Exocet, Angulo, RRD, Ezzy, Chinook etc. www.surfsailaustralia.com.au

2nd Wind carries Starboard, Mistral, Tushingham, Naish, MauiSails, Powerex etc. www.2ndwind.com.au

Windsurfing Perth carries JP, F2, Bic, Neil Pryde, North etc. www.windsurfingperth.com.au

Windshack carries Quatro, Goya, Hot Sails Maui, etc. www.windshack.com

Windforce carries Starboard, Fanatic, Severne, Powerex etc. www.windforce.com.au

SOS carries RRD, MauiSails, Simmer, MFC, etc. www.sossurf.com.au

SOS Surf in Fremantle. Good guys and can sell your equipment afterwards, and send the money back to you in Sweden, they do that for a lot of tourists.

Enjoy your stay it will be a great season

Thanks for your replies!
I've read most stuff on www.windsurfwa.com, but I just thought that maybe some of the shops were specialized in 2:nd hand gear? Or maybe there were some shops which you guys personally recommend? Some of the shops must be bigger/better than others?

Any suggestions on where I should look for a 2:nd hand camper van in Perth? I gather Perth doesn't have a "Kings Crossing" like in Sydney?

Reg at Windsurfing Perth has a buy back scheme for your kit.
Send him an e-mail for more info (www.windsurfingperth.com.au)
At least you get the cash back before you leave the country.

Yes MacL3an, Geraldton gear is similar price to Perth.
Some used gear in the "buy and sell" forum on this site may suit. Most sellers will email photo's.

I have a campervan that may be suitable for you. 1990 MAZDA E2200 LWB DIESEL. Used it as a windsurfing van {until last year when I spoilt myself and upgraded!}, but I still have all of the interior cupboards/units for it. Haven't gotten around to selling it yet but had better soon as I think that my wife is ready to divorce me!{NO, REALLY!...selling it was part of the deal for getting the NEW van}.It has: GAS STOVE, SINK{with under-chassis water-tank and pump},3WAY FRIDGE {may need a re-gas as I haven't used it for about a year}, CUPBOARDS, OVER-CAB SHELVING, DINING TABLE{small one that connects to rear door}, SEATS/2 BERTHS WITH MATTRESSES, EXTERNAL POWER{ie you can pull up to a caravan park and "plug in"},EXTRA INTERIOR LIGHTS, SAFETY SWITCH{circuit breaker}, SLIDING WINDOWS WITH FLYSCREENS, WINDOW TINT, CURTAINS, ROOF VENTS, REAR STEP AND BARWORK, ROOBAR.
It's a hightop, so at 5'6" I can stand up in it without bending{maybe not so good for you!!}. It has a bit of rust around the window inserts but nothing structural. NOT the FASTEST or funkiest van on the road but it's been ultra-reliable and comfortable in the 8 years that I've had it. Put a new heavy-duty battery in last year.
Spent AUD$1500 on her 3 yrs ago, have receipts .
Don't know if it's what you had in mind or not.
