I am getting thin on top, I need protection has anybody seen in a shop one of those (cap with strap) I try a helmet but it feels unnatural! what do you do? is it ok to use uv cream like 30+?

The Wetspot in fyshwick have heaps, every style/ colour you want. But I guess Canberra is a fair way to come for a hat !

Plenty of bucket style surf hats with chin straps on market.

Ive got a Excel brand one with a hard brim at the front so it doesnt blow up when sailing or kiting. Its good for the protection all round - ears and face etc being the full brim.

Had a Billabong or Rip Curl one (cant remember) but the material was pretty heavy when wet and became annoying where as the Excel one is nylon and dries quick as with a much more comfortable strap. Be conscious of the strap when trying on different brands as when looking around all the time the wet chin strap can chaff pretty bad (looks like someone cut your throat after long session) Dont have that problem with the Excel.

Got an Ocean and Earth bucket hat

Looks stupid but i'm never without it. Hate sunglassess with a passion in the ocean and the hat is the next best thing.

This will be my 3rd year with the hat.

So do I but had to get prescription sunglasses.... to hard to sail with a white stick!

Go with a helmet...bloody scratches & dings on bald heads don't impress anyone (trust me, I know!)
