Has anyone been to Club Mistral in Mauritius? If so did the provide good service e.g. Equipment in good condition, swap board depending on the conditions.....

I am going there in July for two week and I don't know if I should take my gear with me.

Comrade Dzub
Club Mistral stock the latest North Sails and the latest boards from Mistral.
No problem with swapping of boards or sails to match conditions... in fact thye do all rig for you and simply handing of it over at waters edge.
The station is run by German guy called Felix. He has been there long time and know breaks very well. He good sailor and can offer lessons on wave ridding if wanted.

They provide very good service, very helpfull and very professional.. they have rescur boats and life guards who spending all day just looking for people to be helping of.

HOWEVER

You not be able to sail One Eyes on hire gear... this is much big no no.
You will not be able to sail at low tide AND you will not be allowing to sail outer reef (Manawa) unless you joined by 3 others Club Mistral sailors and be taking waterproof radio with you.
Also if swell get big you not allow take hire gear to outer reef.
This is all for safety reason (except for low tide which is for protecting of fins)

Depending on where you stay in mauritius and what kind of sailing you want do is dependent on taking of own gear.
I travel many time to Mauritius and take my own gear every time except once (this was firsting time and i just taking of the surfboard)

Air Mauritius is fairly good with equipment but you MUST not be putting more than 32kg in any bag.. this standard for all airlines as bag snatchers refusing for lifting this weight.
Depending on what seat you take (Economy/Business) you have different weight allowance but you should not be having of the problems for taking 1 board 2 masts and 4 sails

I recomending you take old fin for first few days... reef very shallow and you needing 2 days or so for working out where to go.
Evcen in low tide when Club Mistral shut there is very good sailing to east of station and out back at Manawa.

I providing you with more info no problem, you just pm me for sure ok ?

In addition to Kremlins comments I'd like to add that you definately want to take your own gear as they wont let you go out on hire gear when the swell gets big as the current usually picks up as well, which potentially sweeps you out to sea. Even the inner reef is off limits then which only gives you a small flatwater patch which gets quite choppy. So take your own gear. If youre staying at the Indian resort you can leave your stuff rigged up on the lawn in front of your room. Although if you are not staying there you will need to carry your gear back and forward to your accommodation as the mistral station won't store your stuff.
June till September is the best time and it can get really windy although soem of the best sessions on the outter reef can be had in 15 knots. The wind past the reef is always lighter than on the inside. If you can, take two waveboards one small one big so you got enough floatation for the light wind days. No point taking freeride stuff although if you are a serious freestyler you might consider a freestyle board as well. Me (85 kg's) will take an 85 lts waveboard and 4.4/5/and 5.6 sails. But last time I went I took a 92 lts waveboard and 6.2 and had some awesome sessions. When are you going?
I'm booked from 23rd june till 9th July. Cant wait, need a new sailing buddy over there if I cant convince Komrade Kremlin to come along

Forgot to mention, Air M. grants you 20 kg allowance for your sporting equipment on top of you regular luggage allowance and they are somewhat lenient from previous experience. But if youre travelling alone two boards will be a bit of a stretch

Cheer Cheer,
I'll see you at the airport! Also going on the 23rd of june till end of july, can't wait
dzub, if you are going for the wave sailing le morne is the best place to go, but there are awesome freeride cruises and passes along the coral barrier where some nice little waves get in. I'll be spending a lot of time at le morne but am a local of the east coast, so if you come with your gear and hire a car I can direct you to some good places.
