If you drive into the carpark and there are 5000 people with bats in their hands, then maybe you should try another beach.

But who knows??
Maybe see what happens around town over the next few nights.
If its died down then surely a few hours on a weekday arvo would be safe.

Otherwise, if you have the time, just drive down to the Gong.

Not much swell right now but hopefully there'll be something more by then.

Thanks guys - I may actually end up at long reef, maybe off the point where there can be a bit more wind and swell. I hav to pick up my wife from Westmead hospital at 5:00pm so this means being off the water at 3:30 which sucks and she would be very pissed if her car got scratched etc if i took the risk on Thurs.
Then again is it worth making a statment that people will still use the beach and spend money in the local cafe for a post sail bacon and egg roll & coke.....rather than be frightened off.

PS had a great sail yesterday from 4:30 - 6:30 at Longy in 15knt SE but there were about 20 kites out making it pretty busy.

This is all very sad!!!
I've seen the cars completely smashed at Maroubra and it was pretty bad.

I have got mixed feeling about going to Cronulla:

I believe that we all want this crap to settle down,
so (unfortunately for us) we may have to stay away from these current areas with problems (at least over the weekend)so that the calm could come back quicker. Not necessarly because of our own concern for our cars etc..but also for the residents of these areas that more than anyone want their street to become normal again.
If the street and beach are generally empty of people, the trouble makers from either side will be quickly stopped, and the general aggresive feel will eventually settle.


However, I am down for a good sailing session!!!
so where else for Tomorrow??? maybe it is a good opportunity for all of us to meet somewhere else..Northern Beaches?..wollogong?.Gerroa??? let's organise a cool positive day of awesome wavesailing!!!


or maybe Wanda ..with some white or peace flag at the top of our sails!!!

Otherwise Sandon Pt, Corrimal or Warilla will be good.

haven't sailed Longy yet, so how would I know if the wind is picking up and I could leave home and drive this way. Which wind station should I check ( on seabreeze or there www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN65066.shtml)

Your presence has been greatly missed at longreef these last few months

The anticipation in the carpark as sailors tend to arrive enmasse and rig feveriously
Those epic summer days ripping around at Butterbox, blasting over the top of the iredessant green weed covered reef heading out to the building wall at Butterbox
The way the wind changes pitch as you leave the water and climb skywards
The weird way water beads and runs off your board and body, defying the very laws of gravity
The thrill of laying into a super powered carve jibe as the next wave begins to lip
The feeling of weightlessness in the sail as the board carves through the jibe and the inertia of the building wave comes into play
The sheer exhileration of racing down the line on a bare away run with the speed climbing imeasurably
The sound of spray slapping down on the water as you cleave off the top third of the wave in a giant grinding cutback
The sight of the wall curving inwards as Butterbox begins to bend around on itself
The sensation of launching into the bending wall and grabbing the kind of air you can only normally achieve while sailing out through waves... not while on it

Ahh Butterbox, when it's ordinary it's pretty mediocre... but when it's on... IT IS ON

Bring on today's predicted Nor Easter and the little spike in southerly swell, Today just may be one of those days for longreef and Butterbox

I have sailed in westerly... can be big swim back in when wind stops or blow gusty
Very off to cross shore... alittle bit of south in the westerly and you can venture round the reef to Makaha !
Cross off to side shore in a southerly/south westerly
Scored Makha big time last year just after chrissie when the southerlies kick in to the Sydney to Hobart fleet
Sailed it 3 days straight... the last day was with a crazy mate of mine from Perth who has since moved over here for work
Matt if you are reading this, here's hoping for some more of the mast high madness we scoured almost 12 months ago !
For anyone else willing to give it a try you will not be disappointed... though the swim in after breaking gear can be a bit hairy !
Broke a mast there a while back and had to swim in over the reef !
Good thing about that is I found a nice little channel.
Next time its on I plan to park at the top of Longreef (past the golf course) and walk in over the top, rig on the northern part of the point and launch off the reef

As for the green slime at Butterbox, I'll give it a gentle pat after I get lip launched onto it this arvo trying something completely out of my league

Wind tends to come late to Longy, 4pm onwards for a nor easter unless its howling
Sou Easters you can sail in pretty much anytime

Just cause I felt like beating myself up even more about the great lack of wind on Sydney's northern beachs i checked out the Shoalhaven web cam on coastal watch... there's a guy blasting in and out, in and out, in and out, right in front of the club house

To make matters worse it seems to puffing along at a pretty steady 20 knots up at Nobbys in Newie... wind both sides but nothing in Sydney !

That was without a doubt the best sail I've had so far this season.
Wind hammered in stronger and stronger until after dark. Waves were awesome. Couldn't move my arms after coming in.

I think it only blows when Whyner goes home. So don't go there anymore Whyner.
