Hi Guys

I have a Pryde formula 260-310 X9 carbon boom and I'd like to cut it down by about 20cm's to make it more usable. Has anyone done this before and what is involved? I guess I need to know how the end piece it attached and if it can be popped off and replaced further down the tube. Thanks

Hi,

I have heard If you have a mast that's too long you can saw it off at the base. The best way to do this is to use a pipe cutter, alternatively mark it and use a hacksaw.

Hope this helps

Hi I cut an HPL formula carbon boom down by about 30cm just knocked the end peices of with a bit of wood and hammer gradually woring round them. Just check you will still have enough straight length in the boom arms for the extenson to go fully in. hacksaw worked fine but keep the cut stright and watch for those carbon splinterswhen cleaning the inside of the boom after cutting.

Jethrow , Yes you can , but there is a limit to how much you can take off . You will notice that the end of the boom is larger diameter than the part you grip ,so the boom end tubes will only slide up so far . As far as the fitting goes , from memory it just sits over the tube and there are a couple of slots to stop it rotating . Just take one of the fittings off and have a look . You should be able to cut the ends off and file a couple of new slots . Word of warning , don,t get a hacksaw any where near your boom unless you are 100% confident that your modification will work .

Disclaimer , If you F..k your $1400 boom up I take no responsibity !!!!
