Went sailing today in 15- knts with NC8 ( laurent for those who have been here).

I was using my 112 firerace with 5.7 (thought it was windier but wasn't) and he was on his V3 Xfire 102 with 5.9 o², he kicked my ass as usual but had so much more speed it was unreal. (he usually beats me but not by this much!!)

back to the beach he offered me to try his board.
Holy sh.t !! the xfire went on plane so much faster than mine and kept accelerating.... I was gutted !! less volume ans still quicker at the start.
(we both weigh 90kg)

I made sure I kept away from the shore so he couldn't call me back, I had a ball !!



When I returned to the firerace, .... not even worth mentionning...
So now I'm pissed with my board and I can't afford a new Xfire !!

And it's supposed to be the same shape as the Xfire (mind you mine's a year older) !!!

did you try his board with his sail and fin as well or with yours? if you want to compare you need to be sure which effect each of the 3 parts has on performance

I am excited about this RRD boards but can not find shop online and prices for two hours already.
Preferable QLD but possibly shipping from other states could be considered ( unless is too risky for this fragile board

But they don't list RRD under new boards on the website for some reason. They are thw WA distributor so would have new ones coming
Shows they have a 2010 X-Fire 122L secondhand for $800, would be a good buy

The XFire is fkn fast and has been ever since first release - good choice. Plus RRD quality.

I agree with the original poster. It gets too tempting to try other people's gear.

This is esp. true of rigs. I'm happy with me boards, but whenever I borrow a nice brand new rig, it seems ever lighter or funner.

isn't a 5.6 a bit of a small sail for a 100L+ slalom board? just curious cause I don't think many people here at least go for that kind of big board/small rig combo with slalom gear.

Actually I found you can buy last years gear real cheap right now. Just have a look in the shops and on the buy and sell section of this site.

At the moment I would say if you buy a 2013 board brand new at full retail and sell it in September next year expect to loose 50 to 60% in value. I guess that's the price of always having the latest gear.

On the other hand assuming your board isn't a dud to begin with you should be able get more the longer you have it.

Volume/sail in my case depends on conditions.

That day the wind "seemed" strong but not so, plus in easterlies you need to get to the middle of the bay to catch the wind so in those conditions, rather than playing sinker, I usually choose a "floatier" board.

Our local god (A²) recommends volume before m²....

Back to topic, talked to the dealer (NC8), I can get get a brand new V3 for 1000$, who wants to buy a male teenager (I'll throw in a Firerace) ???

I can arrange that, but not sure if he'll have some left !! He's receiving the V4 next month...
