Following on from the "Which brand is best" thread and for those of us that cant afford it, list the gear you most desire and why. Shows brand loyalty, gear spacing and what you focus on- formula, slalom, freestyle, freeride or wave. My list is-

Boards (all starboard, exocet a very close second)

Isonic 122- racing board
Isonic 87- blasting board
Isonic 50- speed board, 54L and my weight= cyclone required
Kombat 106 wood- big freestyle board
Evo 74 wood- wave board

Isonic's just beat Exocet warp's for me on isonic's test performance. All starboards apart from isonic's are imo the best looking boards. Pity i'm not a fan of the local starboard dealer.

Sails (all aerotech)

06 VMG 8.3, 6.7, 5.4 (x2) awesome sails I have 6.7 and 5.4 already, the second 5.4 would be going to sail makers to become a 4.4 for when that cyclone arrives

Charge in black/blue- got to have the right colours 6.6, 5.5, 4.5, 3.5 (3.5 for the kids and again for when that cyclone arrives). Choose these for wave/freestyle sails i'm not a fan of really grunty or big sails for this.

And just for laugh's maybe a Mistral equipe and aerotech rapid fire 9.0 for those no wind cruising days and having a board for teaching the kids the fundamentals of sailboarding.

It's been a windless and slow news week

yeah i like my kaos as well. but i think the kult is a better sail.
in the smaller sizes i think the severne is a better sail as it has the runs on the board...... but am prepared to interchange if needed.

had trouble deciding between the north and the KA formula as well. am very happy with my ka formula. but also loved my north race sails i have had over the years. so will interchange here too if need be.

i'm actually pretty close to my dream gear... just need some more very over priced fins.

will be getting a large volume wave board next.

kult a better sail, that is a big call.

I like my gear too, 4 boards and 6 sails pretty much have me covered. But havent had enough time riding it (3/4 boards i have used less than 5 times)... sometimes you jump on the gear merry-go-round until you think you have the best.

I have my dream kit. Here it is.

Starboard Hyper sonic 111(2005)- Why .. planning in 9-10knts and is excellent on all points of sailing.
Sails for this board
Neil Pryde 8.4 RS6 (2006)
Neil Pryde 6.5 V8 (2006)( this could be RS6 soon)

Starboard Kombat 86 (2006)Why .... Great for bump and Jump at Redcliffe and great in the bar at Caloundra and Mooloolaba. I had a Kombat 105 as well which did not plan any earlier than the 86 so I got rid of it.
Sails for this board
Neil Pryde 6.1 expression(2005)- lots of planning power in light conditions
Neil Pryde 5.4 Combat(2005)- A good allround sail for the sweet spot of the board. Very wide range.
Neil Pryde 4.7 Zone(2004)- Great control in high wind. Spills the wind in a hurry when things get a bit wild.

Masts
NP x6 490
Np x6 460
Np x3 430
Np x3 400
Booms
NP x6 200-250
Np x3 150_ something
Np x5 Wave

Fins
Select Viper 49
Select X1 26.5
And all the starboard fins that come with the boards( That haven't broken)
Will continue to upgrade fins slowly.

Future change maybe swap Hyper for Exocet Warp Slalom 120ish. Not for a while though.

got to agree with you on the sail choice Curac... i got my first goya wave a few mths ago and it is the dogs bollox.. mindyou with only 1 design in their sail range you would expect nothing less, especially coming from F.G....

My severne s1 is a close 2nd

hi mk,

yes, i believe the kult is a better sail.... the reason why, "longer boom length" perfect for bump and jump and cross onshore waves. plus after comparing the kult and the kaos, the kult is faster.....

we don't get to many classic surf type conditions so the longer boom is the go. i am sure if we didn't have onshore mush than i would feel differently and would prob go the kaos.

as for the kaos vs blade. once it is actually windy enough for me to be on a 5.3 or 4.7 then a short boom is appreciated.

[font=Verdana]Pretty happy with my current setup:

Boards
Starboard S-Type 104 (offshore blasting and slalom)- though keen to try out the iSonic.
Fanatic Goya Freewave 85 (for no-wave Cott summer sessions and light wind wave sailing)
Starboard Evo 74 (for most wavesailing)
Starboard Surf 78 (for down the line wave sailing)- yeah I could upgrade!

Sails
Tushingham Lightning 6.5
Ezzy Wave 5.8, 5.2, 4.7, 4.2 (although hearing good things about Aerotech - might have to check em out

Masts
Ezzy RDM 430 / 400
Tushingham Freewave 75 460 - dont have it but want it

Booms
All sorts - ideal would be Chinook Carbon

Jesus if only I knew.
I get a bee in my bonnet about some board or sail or fin et al and start saving my bikkies (part of the fun is the anticipation so a good lengthy delay is essential). By the time the fund is ready I've changed my mind.

Currently I'm pretty open but for a speed board I'm kinda attracted to the isonics. Just love the white on white graphics.

Otherwise I'll just go with the latest board test I read. Don't like blue boards though because although they look nice in the shop, they dissappear on the blue green background of the water.
Wont go for the lightest unless I'm convinced that its not flimsey. Dont care where its made. Fact is I mostly end up buying second hand or old stock. Cant keep up with the annual bombardment of new shapes n names anyway.
If I had my druthers I'd have:

Sails - I try to stick to the 1.18 common ratio rule but the bloody manufacturers dont - the c**ts. I'm also a fan of durability in sails. Although there are manufacturers that tout durability as their forte I have yet to find one that fulfills its claims.

Hmmm... didn't mean to send that. Watch out for those tabs.

Just a pile of boring bullsh1t anyway so maybe I should talk about what I'd really like. But no - Stickys guidelines say I can't.

Just got back from the gym. I've been doing a course called "Body Balance". I happened on it a while ago. I was going to the gym to do a bit of dewimping and I noticed it on the notice board. "Hmm..."I thought "Body Balance, that might help me to stop falling off my sailboard" so I went along to check it out.

Its a Les Mills franchised course that's been picked up by lots of gyms. I heartily recommend it. Its sort of choreographed yoga - a bit girly to be sure but that's half the attraction. You go into a room full of women of all shapes and ages and one or two blokes. There were 2 or 3 honeys there today. They dim the room lights and illuminate the class convener (who in the case of my class today is absolutely adorable). She leads the class through the routines. Ah God I could watch her all night. She's double jointed and ballet trained so she moves and poses flawlessly. At the end they have a relaxation bliss out. The lights go right down and to the strains of dreamland music and the dulcit tones of the instructor you try to forget your agitated state.

Its even better if you do a workout beforehand so you go in with a nice testosterone rush. Not only is the floor show to die for but you get a really excellent stretch.

What's the point of this. Simply that there's more to life than sailing, not much mind you but there ARE some worthwile things to do on a windless Sunday.
