Who else out there has had extra charges charged to their card, for supposedly incorrect dimensions, yet you would swear that you measured the box correctly?

I've had terrible results with Ego (hunter express). It relates to extra dimension charge they charge your card with after the initial booking charge.
It's typically $10-15 on a $100 sail box. You think not worth worrying about and let is side, yet you were sure you measured the dimensions correctly.

THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN - only this time you took photos of the dimensions, allowed an extra 1cm and where present when they picked them up.

There were 3 sail boxes, all the same height and width, just the length was different. One box went through ok, one was out by 0.5cm and the other by 3cm! (Width)
I complained. Provided photos – I even got the receiver to take measurements and photos, to verify the measurements
Got the generic letter back, stating that that two of the boxes were out of specifications and that’s why you were charged extra
I provided photos of measurements before and after delivery, but no response.

YOU HAVE NO COME BACK ON THEM. They don’t want to know you and you have no way of holding them accountable.

Who knows would happen if there was a damage issue – even with insurance.
I no longer use them, I go to my local courier and get them to measure the box.

A year ago I had someone take a charge off my credit card a month after I sent something with them.
I suspected staff fraud , reported it to the bank, and got it taken off my credit card. Maybe if it had happened within a few days I would have paid it.

Smart Send.

I got fed up with not bring able to get a real person at e-go and as you discovered just poor comms in general. Smart send appears to be a little family deal and you get an actual person

The phrase on the back of the con note or website "Not a common carrier" basically says it all. Basically gives them carte blanche to do what they want and charge you what they want.

I have. Got a board delivered via e-go. They doubled the cost after delivery and i couldn’t get a refund and struggled to actually talk to someone. Eventually ego claimed the box was bigger and heavier than the original quote figures.

i haven’t used them since. It felt like a shake down.

I had a similar problem recently with another courier.

I have a separate debit card for certain online transactions, and it only holds a balance for the expected amount.

When I received their email I responded with:
I measured item correctly 3 times.
Sent photos, dimensions were not shown though
Advised I paid with debit card so any further debit would fail
Advised I would report any additional charge to my financial institution as fraudulent
Asked them to supply me their evidence (given they asked me for mine)

They replied and explained how couriers measure accurately with precise equipment and explained why differences can occur (all plausible) but did not keep evidence because it was too costly timewise.
They informed me they would not apply extra charge in this instance.

It would be interesting to know if they attempted to do so but failed (and why they then sent me email to notify of extra charge.
A bit of extra trouble on my part but I already had a specific debit card for online purchases

I think their web site says it all. They're still driving on the wrong side of the road after all these years. No dip sht in their company with an IQ greater than 60 (and that's obivously a genius there), has picked that up yet. Embarrassing !

KJ: 1 star google review mate. The best way to communicate feedback to dip sht companies.

Yes, I do that as well. But, can a credit card payment on a debit card go negative ?. I've observed that a few years ago.

With Shift and Sht, I add 3cm to the consignment on every dimension. I figured it isn't worth the f around.

I send about 5 cartons a week with them and have had only 2 in the six months that have had extra charges added , but I always add a bit to the dimensions.. Their prices have gone up recently so I thought I would get some quotes from other comapines. Fed/tnt said $69 surcharge for anything over 1.2 m and another $65 if receiver isn't a company Startrack said they are no longer exceping oversize cartons at all, and I am waiting to here back from Direrct Frieght.. I Know EGO is by no means perfect but options are becoming limited for sails/masts/boards ....

Give Mainfreight a call. I’ve sent a board with them recently and a sail before that. They don’t seem to mind the long stuff and prices are good and freight times are less than E-Go and great to communicate with. Well, that’s my experience.

I regularly send framed artworks to customers.
My courier Aramex has just changed the way it works out the area. It now goes H (m) x W ( m) x L ( m) x 250 = cubic weight . It now costs more but is still economical.
Maybe this is what is happening with the boards and Ego?

thanks for all your experiences, looks like i wasn't the only one.

I still wonder if its fraudulent behavior, or slight muck ups that aren't worth the effort / cost to fix. It goats my fairness/ accuracy genes, as you've done everything right at your end.

Maybe you just add some extra on to the cost of your quote, when comparing prices.

The bigger issue will be if damage occurs and you have insurance - what's the come back on them if you can't contact them.

Anyone had experiences with damage issue's and the claim process?

I think if they are not contactable by phone, and take a month to reply to emails (my personal experience), then what's the point of it ?. Their insurance probably is the cheapest underwriting they can find anyway. I spend that money on extra packing. Although, when I walk into the Green Fields depot, they're always helpful with my questions. That's what I do now, instead of emailing.
