I'm thinking of buying a nice wave board for those day I make my way up to Lancelin and Gerro and get pummelled pretending to be a big wave sailor.

I got my eye on three boards

1 - Staboard EVO 74 litres
2 - Original Wave 68 litres
3 - Amigu 7"4' 80 litres

Has anyone had any experience of these boards and/or which would you recommend for a 72kg sailor (Ok, maybe 74kg - I just ate a chocolate biscuit).

Which also in you opinions is toughest.

Gary,
I have only sailed the Evo 75 wood 2007.
It is an excellent board, very loose on a wave. It will change the way you wavesail. Unlike other waveboards i have sailed over the years this one allows you complete freedom on the wave face it does not tell you which line it would like you to take, you can tell it.
It works really well in onshore waves conditions as it does down the line. A really good allrounder.
Stoked!

Thanks Ed,

I've heard good stuff about it, sounds the way to go.

If it was just a beauty contest i'd go for the Evo.

I've got an 84 litre JP wave so was thinking a 70 odd litre board would be better? Or would that be too small you think?

I tried the Amigu 80 and it was sh1t.
Big, wide, boat! I havent seen any of these boards on the water in perth and they have been for sale in the shop for a long time. Is this telling you something?
Evo's are hard to find in shops and are always seen on the water.
I have the 70 and love it!
As for the original wave? they seem to be in the shop too. have only seen one of these boards on the water and that was a mate who has now moved from perth

yes thats me!!

I have a universal wave 88. havn't seen to many others around at all on the water. dont know why. only a few shops in perth and with so many brands on the market they cant get to much of every thing out there. some may say that the exocet is to prodictable and easy to ride i.e not exciting enough. but I think they are a very under rated, and over looked board. not every on wants that kind of white knuckle on the edge ride. I find my exocet is definately predictable. thats exactly what I want from my wave board. its so smooth and easy to ride that i can forget about the board and just have a good time on it. it does every thing that i want it to do and more than i wish i could. planes very early, has very big sail range, I use 4.5-5.7 , but would take smaller and up tp 6.2m with no probs. carves great and has realy good board speed. I would think that the smaller 68 would feel quite similar to a smaller guy, the 88 works good for me(95+kg)
next bet for me would be the star board. havn't used on but from what i have been told the are probably not as good at early planing as the UW and the need to be powered up.
just an example on how well I think my board powers up on to the plane, I quite often sail with a mate 25kg smaller than me, he rides a wood acid 77 and when I am powered with my 5.0m he is only on a 4.7m and sometimes even on a 5.2( bigger than my sail hey!!)

it wouldn't be too small, but you would only use it when it was 4.7 weather I reckon. If you bought a evo 75 a would bet you would be riding your 84 alot less.... tough decision try and demo one

My wife has the EVO 80, she has only sailed it once, but loved it! The guys she bought it off said it takes a bit of getting used to, as in wouldnt get onto the plane quickly etc, but she said it was very forgiving and very loose (sort of like her really - I hope she doesnt read this!)

If your wife does read this Divaldo you're in for it!

This stuff is great, thanks. I liked the idea of the Amigu but GreenRoom is the only guy i've heard of actually sailing one..

I suppose the width of the thing makes it boatlike.

I wish I could just test all three and see how I go.

Wednesday I was telling Ric at sailwest in Gero that I was planning to build a new shorter style wave board, and need plugs boxes and footstraps. He asked me if I'd actually sailed a modern short board, and offered me a try of the amigu 7'4". Unfortunately there weren't any waves, and it was only 12 - 18Kn. Found it got on the plane about the same as my conventional (olderstyle) wave board about 15Kn with a 5.3 (I'm about 68Kg) went up wind just as well, but wasn't any looser. This surprised me as a foot shorter should make a lot of difference. Wasn't weight as it felt lighter than my board. My conclusion is the straight rocker line, gives it early planning for it's size, but doesn't do anything for it's manuverability. I certainly won't be making a board anything like it, too much weight forward, rocker too straight, and the rear rails too soft. I agree with greeny about this board, somehow it just doesn't look right too my eye.
Anybody want to lend me an evo to see if that's what I want????

Auswind does have demo's of the 75 and 80 2007 Evo. You can contact either Windforce or Second Wind for a Demo.

hey; i'm from germany and i just arrived last week in Wa and this is my first post in this forum (i actually already spent 3 summers in WA but i don't use to spend lot of time on the internet, i prefer to sail !!)
all these boards are really good, couple of years ago in europe i've been riding amigu and once you get use to (it takes about 10 sailing days) it's a really funny board to ride with, it's also one of the strongest one ; i did one season with an original wave and it is also a really good board, maybe it wouldn't be the perfect one for a double mast high in margaret river but this board can go anywhere and it's really easy to ride, the Evo i just tried my sister's one before she broke it (not her fault, she went to the rocks), it's also a really good board, it looks like it is really appreciate by the australian riders (mc kercher effect !)
in your case you have to know witch volume you want, if you go to gero and sail with 4,5 in side-side on wind and jumping in coro your starboard won't last a long time and you don't need big volume, you'd better go for the exocet, if you like to sail with 5 or 5,5 in lancelin the amigu 80 is the board you need and the exocet when it gets stronger, in margaret river with 4,7/5,0 the evo or the exocet would do it
personaly i would go for exocet or evo unless i find an amigu 70liters, you should also check boards like quattro, fanatic and goya they might be a bit harder to find (i don't even know if they have dealers in WA) but they look to be really good for the waveriding conditions you can get in WA (south passage lancelin, sunset beach gero, gnaraloo, margies...)
Hope you enjoy wathever you buy

The new exocet is the exo wave and its tonnes better than the original wave.

Thanks to you all once again for your valuable inputs.

Hey Gaz
You can demo my 70 and 75 evo if you want to get the size right. I am 75kgs and use the 70 for 5.0m and down and the 75 for 5.0m up or gusty days, but can use the 75 with a full powered 4.5m.

Decrepit you borrow my board next time we catch up back home . (you might like a board designed this century)

Thanks Paul, look forward to it, it's a while since we sailed together.

I have a feeling that a bit more area down the back will suit the waves here better, and less length should improve maneuverability. It's just a matter of how much rocker and V

Thanks Paul, that is very decent of you.
I'll give you a call to see when you are out next.

Actually your remarks have also been very helpful. I'm the same weight as you and an anguishing over a 75 litre or a 70 litre board.
This is a perfect opportunity. My other board is a 84 litre JP freestyle wave.
