Yep, domestic is $10 /kg. red roo is 23kg limit then pay after that and I think virgin allow an extra 5 kg for sporting equip, so effectivly 28 kg then $10/kg after that

Totally carrier dependant. Qantas are typically pretty good domestic, no idea international. However on Virgin you'll get stung and Jetstar you might not even get it on the plane. I think last time I flew from Perth to Syd with virgin it cost me $250 or something extra. They charge $10/kg over 23kg. so if you check in 33kg it will cost you an extra $100. Couple of boards, sails etc you're looking at 40kg easy.

Yeah forgot about the 5kg extra allowance for sporting goods. For some reason I entirely missed brads post...I think it's because I had the reply window open when the lightning storm struck...just hit reply when the internet returned...now look stupid. Nothing new

From the International airport? To where, and with what carrier? Can't you find an excess baggage section on their website?

Anyway... in a nutshell, flying Cathy with a big windsurf kit bag in tow means you are pretty much f..cked... unless you have a good credit limit on your card and are prepared to give the card a good workout. Expect to pay US$25 per kg over the 20kgs...

Of course most people that do their homework before they book a flight realise that when you fly via the US, instead of Asia, you are entitled to bring 2 bags at 32 kgs each on most carriers... and last time I checked United Airline (Star Alliance) was happy for that second bag to be a surf/windsurf board.
