Can anyone tell me if a 4.00 meter RDM Ezzy mast can be matched with a 4.60 RDM meter mast to make a (or two?) 4.30 meter combos?

Cheers

You can mix and match any Ezzy RDM's to make combos, you should note however that doing this alters the bend characteristics of the mast away from 'constant curve'. I've run a 400bottom and a 430 top before to make a 415 which has a 'stiffer tip' than a normal ezzy; was just experimenting.

Yes, you can match the 460 and 400, but they recommend only using the longer tip/ shorter base combo. In other words, use the 460 tip with the 400 base to make a 430.

I did some testing with this in one of my sails, and I remember that the shorter tip with longer base combination was definitely no good and the sail was rigged completely wrong.

The tests where I rigged it with the longer tip and shorter base looked very similar to using the normal tip/base combination.

I suspect it will come down to what sails you are using.

Cool, sounds like I can at least make one workable combo.

Cheers for that.

In fact this is what they recommend for the 5.2, even though that sail has a luff length of ca 430. As per usual, the Ezzy recommendations are spot on: the 5.2 does rig better on this combo than a straight 430.

I've been running 370 & 430 to make a 400 since XMAS when I snapped my 400 top at Lano. Seems to work very well with my 5.0 and 4.7.
