Hello Divaldo,

Mate, I sailed at one of Fiji's best known locations in June last year.

Because this topic stirs up many passions with people for different reasons, I would be happy to discuss the issue privately but not in this forum.

Fiji is a beautiful country and offers prime windsurfing opportunities. Please, do your research VERY carefully before committing to any package deal, all are not created equal. PM me if you wish to hear of my experience in Fiji.

Cheers

Yes. Tips - avoid coral. Advice - Fiji Bitter, Bounty Rum (with coke and a few drops of lime juice)

It would be coming to the end of the windy season in Fiji now.

Hi Divaldo,

If you have done a search on this forum, you've obviously seen there are a lot of opinions on the matter...

We went this July, and were totally oblivious of any issues prior to our departure. Understood that there was a bit of friction between the various owners after a couple of days, but nothing that had anything to do with us. My guess is that you would have a good time at any of the places. We had a great time, and we didn't hear any complaints from the people we talked to staying at the other place.

Didn’t have a lot of wind, but when the winds were up it was great. Remember to bring boots and sunglasses with polarized lenses. Ended up spending several days on the beach with reef cuts.

If we go back, I’m definitely taking a week at Nananu. If you are bringing your own gear, I would also consider bringing it with me out to the Yasawas. We left our gear at Nananu, and obviously it’s a hassle to bring it along, but once we got out there I spent most of my time regretting I hadn’t brought it.

Think I’d wait until next year though…

Have been in july for 2.5 weeks at nananu safari lodge. its a beautiful place. have been every day out sailing in 20 to 30 knots tradewinds. That was wind season. got told that not windy season (september to march) are average of 15 knots to expect. for not windy days or the times between sailing there is diving, snorkelling or a hike around the island.
You can get camping to luxury style accomodation there.
Just watch the corals. we got bad infections from little scratches. Nobody there told us about the coral spore storys, we went back in the water with every day more and more growing wounds. back home we were ready for the doctor.

One little thing was in my opinion not right. Essentials like a bottle of water get charged with $5. we got told the tapwater(salty..) is drinking quality and in the foodpackage is free orange juice included. i dont call tang powder in salty water orange juice.

I still can say i have had a greate holyday and i will go back there one time.

I love Tang!

sounds like the coral is the big issue with sailing here. We came across lots of coral in Hawaii, must be a different variety, cause we got plenty of scrapes, just not infections.

Nananu is next on my search, cheers

Coral is an issue for those that don't respect it.

Take your own first aid kit, as some tourists tend to hog the Hydrogen peroxide.

The Tang Tastes like TANG, the water is plenty drinkable.

Bottled water is bought in town just like the beer.
See how many hotel mini bars give you cheap bottled water.

Of course it would be lovely if it were free, I'm not having a shot here, just voicing my thoughts.

At Bechams on th4 other side of the island a Fiji stubbie is $4 and a Long neck $5. go figure.

the bay is sailable at all tides, if you are prepared to walk thru the lagoon to the reefless entry points, again you stay away from coral. Because you can. I had more cuts from shells, rocks and sticks. and I went everywhere barefoot.
