Gaastra 6.2 Grind Showing my age but got the sail for my 40th and am still loving it. Its been through pretty much everything and is still going strong. Been used for full on waves and B&J. gets a wash every now and then but handles everything you throw at it. Always been a Barry Spanier fan and have used his sails since my first RAF wave 4.2 back in 80's.
Interesting... Since i do many of the sail repairs, I see things differently to most. Its interesting how you get the same repairs in the same models regularly..... There are some models of sails out there I wouldnt touch with a 550 100% carbon pole....
Undoubtedly Barry Spanier is the best sail designer in the world having worked for Neil Pryde, Gaastra and now Maui Sails. Now that the sails are no longer getting made in Sri Lanka, Im hoping they will be top notch this season. only 5 more days til they arrive.. I clocked 29.3 on my 5m Global wave sail on the first session. Very impressed indeed.
As a repairer I dont mind sails being torn in half of shattered panels, but to repair stupid things really annoys me. I look at the nitro5s etc and they are worn to buggery rather than falling apart prematurely.
However to really answer this question properly I think you need to get the top of the line masts to suit them. Most sails feel pretty good when you get the right mast.

Which ones? Tell me? Please. PM me if you don't want to go public.
I like Loft sails - seem fairly fast and balanced, built with good materials so should be durable (ideal for me with my wipeouts ), have a great range and the price and service is brilliant via www.windsurfingsales.com.au/ I recently bought a new Blade, 4 cam race sail and 100% carbon rdm mast for much less than the price of an RS Slalom.
lovem or hatem, pryde sails get you on the plane early, and unfortunately in QLD that's what counts if you want to sail regularly, maybe at the cost of some longevity
Sailworks 100% best sail i've used, never destroyed one, my fav size and year? "08" 5.0m Revolution, had a few sails on it now, it's freakin awsome they done a great job again this year, next fav would have to be the Simmer Wave sails, just think they look hot, especially the green and white ones..
i havnt been sailing long enough or sailed on many different sails to give a proper analization , but i like my 5.8 gaastra Grind 04 model i think? gets me going on my 88 litre in about 15 - 17 knotts and ive had it out in 25 -27 kts and its pretty sturdy had sum huuge staks and no dents yet. . . just feels nice too
hotsails for durability and performance, and north and hotsails for value of money... i think the new 08 goyas will be right up there aswell but yet still to try one
